Re: Tamiya Mustang P-51D "grim reaper"

Hi guys time for another update.

So I started on the underside of the wing to night where there are a few tricky parts.

1st I needed to negotiate the empty shell slots. To do this like before I applied the glue on the wing and also in the holes.
Image

then I smoothed the foil over looking for the holes once found I put a little hole in them all.
Image

Then with the cotton bud and knife I pressed the foil into the sides of the holes.
Image

Here are both sides done.
Image

Next it was onto the section under the radiator. Now this is quite tricky as the gap is tiny with the foil settled onto most of the panel I used a cocktail stick and gently eased it into place then it's just a case of cutting it as normal.
Image
And it went in like a glove. (A huge sigh of relief from me lol)

And here is the sum of tonight's work. Next time I'll finish of the flat surfaces of the wings and move to the tail.
Image

Thanks for looking guys.

Next update is going to be the hardest part of this build.

Foiling round the guns
Image

I decided to do it in halves with the foil meeting at the leading edge of the wings.
Image

Not the easiest
Image
Image

But after much swearing I got there in the end
Image

Luckily I'll be drilling the barrels out and replacing them with some sliver colour tubinging. And it's where the invasion stripes go.

Again thanks for looking

Nige, apologies as I haven't had a lot of time recently, so posting comments on the forum has taken a bit of a back-seat, but I've been following your build very closely, and mate, this is just insane!!!! I did scratch my head and wonder how you were going to tackle this when you announced you were going to use foil. You've not only knocked it out of the the park, it's left the outer atmosphere and its still travelling with no signs of slowly down.

Absolutely brilliant :th: :th: :th:    : : :

Thanks a lot guys for the great comments.

Right a quick update tonight. I'm starting on some of the leading edges of the tail planes and wings.

So here we go.
Image
Glue applied

Image
Image
Then the foil I started with the top gently smoothing it down and then round the leading edge.

Image
Then I cut a bit out of the coner so it would go round easier.

Image
Image
So when finished this is what I got.

Image
And with both done.

I did the same for all the parts on the wing.
Image
Image
Image

I did a panel on the spine where the cockpit runner is using the same method as I used on the shell holes under the wings.
Image

Like I said not much but slow and steady with this is the way to go.
Image

Again thanks all for looking.

Hi mate PVA would work but have a longer drying time and as your cutting into it for the panel line it might move. And thanks for comment mate
