Thanks!
Time for a big update, this will most likely also be the last update before the final reveal. The body has been painted, cleared and polished to a decent finish. I started by putting some Vallejo primer on and sanded it smooth using Micro-mesh 2400 grit cloth. For base coat I used Zero Paints black in a mist coat followed by a covering coat. this was then sanded smooth and a third coat was put down which was polished using Micro-mesh 3600 grit.
For clear I used Zero Paints 2k clear. when it comes to getting a hard, gloss clear coat, 2k clear is the best. The bad thing about it is it's not too good to breath and you need a spray booth and a mask. The really god thing is that it hardens to a really solid hard surface that can be polished. The instructions call for 2 part clear 1 part hardener and 10-30% thinner, I usually use about 20% for the first coats.
I used my old trusty H&S Focus with a 0.4mm needle for the clear.
I started with a really thin misty coat
After waiting about 15 min a second light coat was put on. This ended up a bit to heavy, it shouldn't have been this glossy.
This was then left to dry for another 15-20 minutes. The reason for this is to let the first and second coats have some time to become tacky as this will help so that the last heavy coat won't run. For the last coat I mixed a new batch of clear adding a bit more thinner (about 2 part clear, 1 part hardener and 1 part thinner) to make the final coat go on smoother.
After letting the clear harden for a few days it was time for some polishing, I used the Micro-mesh set using the 3200 to 12000 grit cloths and Zero paints polishing compounds.
This is the right ride before any polishing, it's pretty smooth but there are some dust particles in it that needs to be removed.
After wet sanding w using the 3200 cloth, this was only used lightly to remove the dust.
And after the 12000 grit
And after the first of the polishing compounds.
This is what it ended up looking line after all three compunds
To remove what was left of the compound in the panel lines i sharpened a cocktail stick to a flat thin flat end and ran it down the panel lines.
I found that there was a problem with fitting the interior in the body with the windows in place. So I had to cut off the lower edge of the windows, this will not be seen when the car is done.
And the finished interior, I added a PE steering wheel from Model car garage. The instruments where dry brushed in white and then a drop of 5 min epoxy was added to simulate the glass.
This is what it looks like now, just need to add all the chrome bits and add some wires in the engine bay.
