IBG 1/35 Bedford QLD

Post by Hanger2 »

This is my latest project.

Image

I have alway liked this lorry after seeing them going past the end of our road, as a nipper in Newbury, on their way to Southampton Docks to be shipped out for the Suez Crisis.

Here are some of the parts and made up modules, some painted and some still in primer.

Image

One of the under slung racks holds 3 jerrycans, these are not in the kit but from the spares box.

Image

Engine and rad fitted, shame you can only see the sump off the engine after the cab has been fitted.

Image

The cab has quite nice details.

Image

Image

All parts painted, pin-washed and dry-brushed awaiting to dry before assembling.

Image

Cargo compartment load of boxes and tarps from Value Gear Details and the 2 drum from the spares box.

Image

Load as will be seen once rear module fitted

Image

Cab assembled and map on passengers seat and pinup on rear bulkhead.

Image

Views of the nearly finish QLD, pigments added for the mud weathering, the rest will be added once it is on its dio base.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Just the mirrors to fit and the Bridge weight number to the yellow disc, then to start on the dio base.

Looks great, loving the paintwork.

Am VERY curious as to how you got the black/green camo looking the way it does as I soon plan to do a 10HP utility car in the same colours. Was it JUST dry brushing over black?

Many thanks all of you.

UKSM, I added Dark Prussian Blue to German Grey, Vallejo Model Colors, I very rarely use Black, to get the Tarmac colour and then dry-brushed with Artist's Oils but instead of my normal white I have been using Naples Yellow after a recommendation from another modeller I met at Yeovilton Model Show, and I am really pleased with the result.

Thanks moi and Paul, it went together well, no flash but just mould lines to clean up, the instructions are not the best as the drawings are very dark but with dry fitting I managed.

Fantastic work as always Geoff.... I do love to see your builds. The weathering is so spot on.. What have you used to represent the dried mud and spray in the arches and flaps, and around the jerry cans?? It looks excellent. The tyres are spot on too!! Well done sir...
Looking forward to another superbly built and detailed diorama.
Will you be displaying this and your other recent builds down at the Tank Museum??
Take care and as always, Happy Modelling mate.. :th:

Thanks Andy and tiking

The mud, etc is all MiG products, 3 different shades of pigments mixed with a bit of wall filler and then mixed with MiG acrylic resin for pigments, this is the dabbed in the places you want it to give rough relief, when dry I added dry lighter coloured pigments into the corners and ledges followed by white spirit carefully applied with a thin brush to soak the pigment, do not move the brush or pigment about as it needs to stay in the required spot, repeat to all the dry pigment areas. Leave to dry and if more needs to be applied, repeat method.

Started on the base layout, a few stowage items from Value Gear and some figures in place.

Image

Image

Image

This base will have a camo net covering suspended on poles and crossmembers for about two thirds of it, but can be viewed from the sides.

The unpainted figure leaning against the lorry tailboard is a resin SKP one, which I have now painted.

Image

The stowage that goes on the ground has also been painted, etc

Image

I have covered the base board with DAS and waiting for it to dry before I continue.

I have been making steady progress with this, but have had other things going on so have been unable to spend time posting.

This is the Senior NCO figure I waited to give the squaddies a rocket for slacking. It's made by Hornet and in white metal, I have done him as a WO2.

Image

The camo netting framework erected on the DAS modelling clay covered base.

Image

Camo netting in place, I used surgical gauze painted with 3 coats of dilute PVA and painted in an acrylic green mix. The camo ribbons are cut from toilet paper and fixed on with dilute PVA.

Image

These are the bulk stores which are covered in strong hand wipe paper. these are the white poly lumps in the above pic. They were coated with neat PVA, then the paper applied while still wet, then folded in place and coated in dilute PVA a couple of times.

Image

Then they were primed and painted a tarp green colour, both slightly different, pin-washed in oil wash then dry-brushed

Stores glued in place and other bits and figures in general positions

Image

Other stores fixed, also figures, mugs of tea added as are the wads (sandwiches), these are made of card and the well worn greaseproof paper is made from Rizla cigarette rolling paper, painted and then when dry crunched up

Image

Image

WO2 waiting to give the guys a rocket

Image

All glued in place, base given a couple of dusting of pigments

Image

A bit more to add at the front as it looks a bit bare, but that's it for now

A bit of dusting with MiG pigments and some engine oil stains on the ground

And it's all finished. I display it at show on a turntable as there is interest all around the dio.
