"Fallen Priest"

Post by hansolo »

"Fallen Priest"

My inspiration for building this diorama was Hamilkar's diorama "Scrap Metal". The Soviet T-62 wreckage in Afghanistan.
http://intscalemodeller.com/viewtopic.p ... crap+metal

Seeing that diorama, I wanted to do a completely rusty tank of my own. I had some old american tanks laying around. And one of them was a perfect candidate for being totally wracked and rusted. It was a lot of fun to wrack the tank and weather it in this extreme way! When a tank is this far gone, you can go all out in all the weathering techniques you can possibly imagine. :-) I painted it in several rust colors. I dark washed it. I put a lot of streaks on it. I dry brushed it. I pin washed it. I chipped it. I put pigments allmost all over it. I put moss on it. I put grass and little bushes on it. There's even a plant growing from it! :-)

I pictured it on a roadside somewhere in sunny France in the boccage. The poor Priest Tank didn't make it very far past d-day. A round got jammed in it's barrel and exploded. It got deserted and nobody since bothered to take it away. Sometimes children play on it. A silent reminder of lesser days...

Fantastic build!!!! Very accurate representation of rust. If I didn't know any better I'd say this was an accrual tank on the side of the road.

Awesome looking rusty wreck you built there :) i like how the plant is growing out of the engine deck, thats a nice detail! the rust and damages look very realistic, i´d say your attempt was a big success.

Nice work on this popular genre of model building subjects. What technique did you use for the rust?

First I painted several colors and shades of rust colors.
Than I used pigments for the finish with structure.
