If I recall correctly are you thinking of trying to emulate this picture?

Or one like it?

If so, that's cool! And best of luck!

I will be doing a tiger in that region. I have the decals for one of the tanks in witty crew. Think it was one at the end of the road watching to support witty if needed when he did his rolling thunder. Think 15 tiger ones in this platoon destroyed in first engagements at that time. I will be using artistic licence on my tank though. Lol lots of this build will be right over my head. Crosses fingers

Great idea, I would recommend adding your own base behind the building to have the tTger poking out from the ruined corner with the mangled lamppost - maybe have the top of the lamppost on the Tigers turret. then you could add anything of interest to the road of the Miniart base.

There are a whole slew of photos on that battle Lego. If you need reference shots I have a whole book about the battle of Villers Bocage with all sorts of photos of KOed Tigers.

That kit might be a great piece for a blown tank.
It's not the best of kits from what I've seen. At least that was my experience when I looked at it.
Most of the bad stuff will be covered with zimmerit anyway so I guess you won't see it eh?
That mini-art piece is a really cool one. Once you get it free of the carrier and clean it up, it will build up pretty nicely and paint well.
I'll be interested in seeing your vision on this one.
Looks to be a really cool story bud. :)

Thanks guys.

Hope I can match your expectations but I doubt it lol.

So I finally got a bit of building done on this project well I live in Ireland and if the weather is good you really have to abuse it because you never know when you might see it again.

Miniart

Never made one of these before and was kind of surprised at how bad the fit was to be honest. I chose to make sure the top of the building matched up as I figured the flat bit between the door and walls are flat and I can work with those easier. Well I was left with a huge gap on the right side which will mostly be out of sight but still

Image

Other bits to fill.

One thing I did notice was the stench off this plastic when you sand it. At first I thought my neighbour was burning plastic again or burning something that well he should not

Anyway out with the plasto and will leave for a bit.

Good start mate, those gaps are a bit of a shame, but you'll sort it I have no doubt.

A few years ago I took my Villers Bocage book with me and managed to visit the place. I took photos of locations
shown in the book with my car parked up (which doubled as either a Tiger or Cromwell :D ).

Looking forward to your next update.

On to the Tigger while plasto sets.

Just built the interior which is nice especially for the price but really is let down by the sink marks and I mean quite a few. I did not really clean these up because I wont be looking at them and I am more interested in the exterior. Call me shallow

Image

Image

Image

I did a little dry fitting to see what might show up.

Image

Image

It is sitting a little off on one side but should be no problem.

The hull was initially warped and I used hot water and electrical tape to pull it back into shape over a couple of weeks. Try this too fast or with water too hot and you destroy your model really quickly. :D

Only a little bit of stretch marks

Image

Image

This where I am at at the moment but feel some really bad weather on the way so should be tronkavating soon on this one.

Hi Lego ,

well I choose exactly the same Diorma house form Miniart , and in my case I make two houses , yes a lot of gaps , and a lot of 'burning plastic' ,I almost was without any sanders ...I really didn't a very good job on my gaps as I was rushing the build a littel bit , in the end become aceptable , but mine is ready to see in the reveal section in some minutes form now .

Good Luck with your Dio ...seems a very nice one , looking forward to see it complete !

So had a quick look at the side door and it is far to smooth so to make a more wood like appearance I used a wire brush and a pin vice. I will also roughen the top of teh gate when I get a chance.

Tools

Image

See back of gate is smooth, leaving it this way because the back won't be visable.

Image

More realistic look after a good whacking

Image

Will paint it later and then start weathering process.

On to the house.

Just really eperimentiing by hand with the airbrush and having fun. May be crazy on the colours but I like them :) Masked the stone after spraying it stone lol.

I got a Jworks mold for bricks and had a pop. Rofl not looking good.

Right so. I cut a small left over piece of pe to make two small hinges for the gate. and I coated it in Mr Metal primer before painting it rust and using a wash from AK. I used a lot of products to create streaks on the buildings for damp, earth and moss etc...

Attached it to the side.

I decided to try the Zimmerit with tamiya white putty instead of miliput which I have used to good enough effect before. What a stupid decision that turned out to be in some respects. I wanted a more slapped on look and got it but it was so messy and the putty dried way to fast for my liking so I don't think I will repeat this method again.

Image

I have never built a tiger before I have always preferred the King Tiger and would like to know what these two holes are for because nothing seems to go into them.

Image

More slapping on lol

Image

Go to go fill the area where the vents lead in to the back and fill gaps for smoke launchers next.

It is real nice , and you are doing a great job ...on the other day I mention that I was eager to see the Tiger Crawling on Caen streets , welll seems that this one did all the hunt ... I was not with too much attencion

The Tiger is very good , I 'm sure that the final result will be good and it will be a very nice looking Diorama !

Thanks for votes of confidence.

I now have to look around the house for something I can heat up to poke in the side of the Tiger to represent the shell that took it out. :)

No idea how big a shell should be in 1/35 so looked at some pictures and it looks half the size of a human head :)

Hey chief. Thanks.

This time I tried tamiya white putty and the trumpeter tools. Very messy. I did the milliput before and wanted to try this way for a more haphazard application.

Thanks Nigel.

Ok. Finally got going on this build.

I was not entirely happy with the road and wanted to add a little dried mud so I did and in the first pick it looks like poop fell from the sky. So a little rub of the finger and it was sorted in the second pic.

Image

After rub blended better imo.

Image

Started on the exhausts. Just put a lighter base to give a little definition. Used mixtures of rust ak dark rust and light rust. I also used ak black pigment on top of exhausts.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

I used Humbrol earth to make the mud mied with a little bit of plaster. I really like how it dries and that is what I wanted on this model. I want the look of wet and dried mud from the hedge fighting this tank would have been involved in around caen. It wont look as dirty as this in the finish.

Started on the tracks. Apparently this kit came with rubber bands, yes they where so bad they could not be classed as even rubber tracks. So they changed it to individual tracks which I found really good once assembled. Unfortunately you had to put two teeth onto every track link :( Why they cannot just make the link with the teeth I do not know. Sad Panda.

Image

Primed in black

Image

Lightly coated in Tamiya hull red.

Image

Little bit of metal black ak pigments but nothing crazy as this will be mostly lost in weathering. I do this because sometimes your track is exposed in a position that you cannot reach and this saves your butt :)

Image

I put the tracks on with very little trouble and gave them a little weathering of mud that I used earlier on the diorama for dried mud. I went around the model adding little here and there again.

Image

Image

Image

I then added ak fresh mud using a brush and airbrush for a splatter patern.

Image

I did a little chipping on the turret but nothing mental except the hatches.

Image

I am terrible at painting figures. Typical armour noob :) None of the figures except one I think could be used for what I want. I am thinking of having a corpse face down. The figures legs I wanted to use are to close together and I wanted to change it just a tiny bit.

Image

Using Miliputt I cut the leg off and molded it a tiny bit. First time I have ever done this but hey got to start somewhere right.

Image

Image

Image

Hope this turns out :shifty:

Okay now I reached the point of destroying everything so far with a unrealistic burnt out tank. Well you can decide if I did ok. Using mixes of ak pigment black and humbrol pigments smoke and white.
