Our little Jack russel TERROR is sleeping now, so that give's me the time to post another update :thumb2:

I finished working on the PE parts!

A huge improvement at the oil canisters that are on the back fenders...

Image

Image

And here they are on the back fenders.

Image

Front and back fenders are done now.
I will keep them off and paint these later, for that will make it a lot easier to apply the tracks.

Image

The last thing that needed to be done was bending the tool clamps.
That was the most tricky part of this whole build!
I lost a small crucial part to the carpet monster, and because my puppy is not trained just yet to sniff out lost parts, I needed to scratch build that part. However, it all worked out just fine.. :D

Image

With that part been done, this means that I can say that all PE parts are done!
I temporary attached the towing cables and front and rear fenders with white tack to take some progress pictures.
Also I made a beginning at the tank tracks, one is finished and added.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

The tank riders planed...

Image

The figures are from minikit, but there faces are full of flash, so no go for me.
That is why I bought some Hornet and Wolf heads, to replace the ones from minikit.

There are 5 tank riders, im only going to use 3 of them.
The reason for this is that there will be more PE detailing to see, and with the mid section of the fenders off, there will not be enough room for 5 figures. And they would not sit on a hot exhaust! lol

Image

Image

Time to do some head hunting...

Image

I drilled with a small drill a hole into the figure. By drilling the hole open with bigger drills, I made the hole big enough for fitting the neck. With a blade I made the hole eccentric.

Image

The head itself I cut a bit shorter, and made it smaller at the bottom for an easy fit.

Image

And here's the head on.
The big advantage of this way is that you can turn the head the way you like it.

Image

Image

The same thing I did with the rest of the tank riders..

This fella is singing a song along the way....

Image

Image

The guy next to him is not like his singing...

Image

Image

The guy in the back is minding his own business, knowing he's going to see a lot of Germans real soon..

Image

Image

All figures together...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Now.... I'm NOT planning a dio this time.... so sorry...
Instead, i'm putting this tank on a wooden base.

This is what I have in mind..

Image

A simple piece of wood, a name plate, 2 ammo pieces (flying Dustbins) and a replica of a 79th armoured division patch.

Image

I think this would be cool looking too...
Not sure if I should put some road cover on this base though...

Image

And that rounds up this update!

Next time I will finish the tank tracks, and will begin priming the Churchill and figures.

Hope to see you then!

:cheers2:

Yet another update! :th:

Today I made some time to prime and paint the Churchill.
So I took the model apart, and it's ready for her first coat.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Primed grey.

Image

Pre shaded with black

Image

Now, in the manual they say to paint this tank dark green.
No ref to any paint brand what so ever...
And dark green can be a lot of colours.
So I did some googling and find out that I can not use olive drab for that were the US tanks.
Instead I should use a more khaki green, for that was the colour used by the UK.
Some more googling told me that the best Vallejo colour to use is Russian uniform with a drop of white.
And that just did the trick for me, for I think it looks spot on.
The highlights were done with a slightly lighter mix of Russian uniform and white.

So here she is with here green coat on...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Primed figures added...

Image

Image

And that rounds up update no 7 :th:

Now to get those tracks finished, and to paint the driver so I can glue the tank together and start the weathering.

See ya!

Hello guys, and welcome back to another update.
After base painting the Churchill as you could see in my previous update, it was time to paint one of the crew members, as there is the driver.
I want to paint him first so I can put the tank together for weathering.

I used all Vallejo colours to paint the driver.

*English uniform with a drop of light flesh for his shirt, high lighted with English uniform with a drop of white
*Matt black highlighted with panzer grey for his cap
*Sunny skin tone mixed with English uniform as a base for his face, highlighted with medium and light flesh
*Silver and matt black for his headphone
*Russian uniform for his goggles.

Image

Now for his goggles does not have lenses in it, I made those myself.
Using the same stuff as making instrument panel glasses .
With a tooth pick and some Micro crystal clear I dropped some in the goggles.

Image

And after drying, it looks like this:

Image

And here the driver is in his seat.

Image

Time to pay some attention to the base.
I asked on Facebook and Flickr for some opinions, and here's what I decided.
Keep it small and simple :thumb2:

I painted one side black as some kind of plaque and masked of the edge of the base to protect the front.

Image

Then with a mix of plaster, sand and some Europe sand pigments, I applied the ground cover.

Image

Then in the wet plaster I put some grass tufts in, some small flowers and I put the 78th patch on the plaque.

Image

And here's the result:

Image

Tight fit, I know, but I wanted to go for a "making our own road" look.
Just to show how freaking big those Churchill were...
Maybe it's going to crush a small tree that stands in there way too, but I did not decided that..

Image

Image

Image

Now, the keen observer noticed the stowage on the fenders.
I'm not going to use these.
They look good, there resin, but It's not fitting right.
To big, to small... you name It.
So I made my own..

Using 2 component magic sculp (love that stuff!) baby powder for prevent the sticking, and something to roll it.
And off course, imagination!

Image

Rolled out 1mm

Image

Cut in different sizes, biggest is 3 cm wide.

Image

Rolled up to a package, and made some straps.
With a blade I made the wrinkles.

Image

The straps are simple made from a small roll of sculp

Image

Image

Flattened, pierced small holes in it, and made a buckle from a small roll of sculp

Image

Sky is the limit with this, added a axe and a helmet to make it more interesting.

Image

And here they are on top of the Churchill.
I wanted a big roll for on the side of the turret too.

Image

And that's another update done!
Hope to see you guys next update, where I will start weathering the Churchill. :th:

Thanks for dropping by, and as always, Happy modelling guys!
:cheers2:

Hello guys!

Just a small update this time...

Started the weathering on the Churchill :th:
I did some drybrushing and gave it a dark wash.
Then I give the whole tank a brown filter

Image

Image

Then I applied rain marks (streaking grime)

Image

applied it on the hull and turret

Image

Image

After that dried, I brushed most of it away with a damp brush of white spirit.

Image

Photo does not pic it all up, but it's visible

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

And that's all were I got time for now... :wtf:
Next time I will start on further weathering of the Churchill, and when I've got the metal burnishing delivered, I will make a start at the tracks.
Thanks for dropping by and happy modelling!

Sniper3 is a great game.
Addictive I must say... lol
Story line is a bit simple, but shooting Nazi's in there head, makes up for it...
I did detect a minor bug at the beginning of the game, for some reason when I changed my riffle in the load out section, I was walking around a whole level without guns! I was shooting bullets from my bare hands... Or throwing it at them really hard...
But it's a nice game, love to snipe and camp... :thumb2:

Hi guys!
Between chasing little dogs and modelling this Churchill, I managed to squeeze out a update. :wtf:

I started the weathering part two.
For a metal worn look, I treated the edges of the tank with a HB pencil to make it shine.

Image

Then with dark steel pigment from AK, I made the gears bare metal.
Love this pigment. The longer you rub, the shinier it gets!

Image

Image

Then the chipping starts.
My way to chip paint is with a sponge.
I used AK chipping paint and Vallejo Splinter camo brown in a 1:1 ratio for this task.

Image

Dipping of the paint on a piece of paper until the paint is almost out of the sponge, this to prevent over chipping.
Big blobs of chipping paint aren't very realistic, les is more in this case.
Carefully applied it in a irregular patern to the most exposed panels, and where the crew would walk the most on the tank.

Image

Next up its dust time.
I want this tank to be covered at the bottom of the hull with a light dust.
No big mud splatters ore something like that nope, This thank is receiving a light weathering.
So stopping on time is crucial.
I will use a dust pigment and colour set from Life colours. I won this set in the WhirlyBird SiG, so I wanted to try this out.

Image

I'm using he North Europe dust.

Image

First I applied the pigment with a stiff brush onto the hull.

Image

Then I mixed the paint with the pigment, and used the splash technique for small mud splashes.
I gently rubbed the brush against a cotton swab to make these splashes.
I could use a airbrush, but as I said before, I want to keep it subtle.

Good thing he has his goggles on!

Image

Image

Image

I treaded the ground coverage of the base with the same pigment as on the tank, so the dust on the tank would match the ground.

And that rounds up update 10...
Thanks for dropping by, and happy modelling!

:cheers2:

Thanks Chief!

:thumb2:
So you have sniper elite aswell :o
Good game but i kind of miss the k98k wich was the best rifle of the second part
I found the story a bit short really but i played on cadet the first time
The survival mode is more of a challenge
Oh yeah the churchill looks great

Thanks Mark,
Agreed on the K98K. Best riffle ever.
I do like the fact that you can upgrade your rifles, but it's just not IT if you know what I mean.:
I play the game on Sniper elite mode, kinda tough, but I like it better that way. Love to camp in this game. Waiting for the right moment.

Yep i know what you mean with the upgrades
It takes a long time before you have them all too
I have about 2 or 3 on each rifle and all of them are either scopes or muzzles
The parts for the stocks and triggers are still to come
The sand box idea is pretty neat though , no planned route to take but you get to choose your own
But the graphics are good even on my old tv (won't break down and i don't gwt a new one untill it does)
And there are updates coming aswell so more sniping fun for the future
