German Diorama - WW2 Street.

Post by timtamtung »

Here it is guys, I know many have been following this build and I am pleased to present to you my diorama. It's very simple I know, but it's just a snapshot back in time where some Germans walking through the street.

As I mentioned during the build, many firsts here : *1st Diorama *1st figure painting *1st time working with resin. Everything was brush painted with Vallejo MC & Lifecolour, including priming.

Enjoy and thanks for stopping by! :pop:

Tungy that's excellent work buddy, and for a first of firsts you did outstanding.
The paintwork on the brick is fantastic. You've certainly figured this out haha.
Looks awesome.

If I had a suggestion to make it would be to not bother with the whites of the eyes on the figures. At 1/35 a real eye white would be almost invisible and it takes a real master of figure painting to get that effect to work, and even then it sometimes looks a little odd. A simple tiny dot of burnt umber or black for the suggestion of a pupil usually does the trick followed by a wash of burnt umber to show the eyelids.

Ahhhhhhh that's the trick! Thanks so much for the feedback C. My eyes do seem so googly and I think you are right about ignoring the whites. Will do that in my next figures

I like it mate. It is simple, but why does it have to be complicated?

Well done. :thumb2:

That's a lovely looking diorama. Got some nice atmosphere to it. :th:

That's a good tip, Mike.

One thing that took me a while to realise is that we often mistake the eye socket on a figure for the eye ball and end up filling the entire eye socket with white. This is especially true on some of the older, less detailed Tamiya figures. If you compare a human skull, with a human face, you'll see what I mean.

Also, if the figure is looking straight ahead, place the dot for the pupil very slightly towards the inside of each eye (slightly closer to the nose). This can also help reduce the "spooked" look.
John

On the bench:

Tamiya 1/35 SAS Jeep, 1/35 BMW R75, 1/35 Pzkpfw III Ausf M/N
MiniArt 1/35 Bantam 40 BRC British Staff Car
Hasegawa 1/48 P-51D, originally for D-Day GB
Hobbyboss 1/35 Pzkpfw I ausf F

Looks spiffing mate, as Coen said, the whites of the eyes do look unrealistic imo. But otherwise a stunning dio and figures, you make me want to make a dio :)

You done great work here. I would be super pleased with the results like this.

Hey Syntax, I kinda love doing dioramas now. I bought a few resin dio kits from Verlinden / Blackdog / airborne miniatures to play around with. Since you also live in melbourne, check out BNA's site. That's where I bought all my dio kits :D
