Italeri 1/72 F104C "Starfighter" SmokeII, Udorn 1968

Post by Thunderchief1966 »

Ok here we are at my first GB reveal, i've tried to get the best shots I can as I'm still getting used to the camera but I'll summarize the build first.

The Kit
I think for the money, £15, Italeri need to up their game a little as this reminded me a little of an old Airfix kit, the Meng and Hobbyboss kits i've done are a real step up for pretty much the same money, some of the detail is really good if a bit sporadic, but the decals and instructions were a bit poor. Full marks for the replacement canopy though :thumb1:

Paints etc

I used Vallejo Model Air for the whole build, and Microscale Gloss and Satin varnish for decals and final coat, even though i'm new to airbrushing I had no problems with the model air clogging. I did all AB work with a Neo and .35mm needle. Using Blu Tack was a first but it worked out ok and definitely something to practice more. I've been pretty reserved with the weathering and just used a Flory dark dirt, I'm not confident with chipping yet so I left it at just the wash.

So despite a few problems, I've really enjoyed this GB, especially comments and support from all the other members, thanks again, I am looking forward to the next one now, and after seeing some of the other builds, I think aftermarket parts and PE are my next goals. Anyway, here she is and thanks for looking, cheers Ian :thumb1:

Fantastic! Colours look spot on. Really like the 104, I'm tempted to get italeri's 1/32 version.

Well done mate :th: :th: :th:

Looks stunning Ian! I love it, the camo scheme is top notch and the weathering looks cracker!

Thanks very much everyone for the comments it's really appreciated, I kept it fairly simple and didn't try doing too much on the weathering but I am pleased with the result and the feedback from everyone is great. I am looking forward to the next GB and definitely going to try some PE and aftermarket parts, thanks again, cheers Ian :thumb2:

Fantastic work, sir!

Was anyone else confused as to why the ground painted lines weren't lining up properly? (it took me a couple seconds to realize they are printed paper for photo purposes! lol)
