WWII 1/48 SCALE What to build first
I have the Memorial day issue of Airfix. I really want to build aircraft. I know I want to build 1/48 WWII craft. What is a good kit to start with. I am not talking ease of kit building. I talking about what is that killer plane you want to build?

Definitely the Spitfire and Messerschmitt BF109E....I think a lot of people start off doing those two first....I did when I started modeling this year.
I started off with Airfix 1/48 scale models which were both brand new tools and they went together really well, and also come with recessed panel lines. But, now I have more confidence in my modeling skills....I'd buy 1/32 or 1/24 scale versions the next time I model those two aircraft. If you're already confident in your modeling skills and you have the available cash....go for the larger scales, especially if you have room to display them....there's so much more detail on the larger scales.
I'd love the Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire....here's a link to it- http://www.hobbylinc.com/tamiya_superma ... cale_60319
and the Trumpeter 1/32 BF109E-4....here's a link to it- http://www.hobbylinc.com/trumpeter_mess ... scale_2289
Or, maybe an Hasegawa 1/32 BF109E: http://www.hobbylinc.com/hasegawa_bf-10 ... scale_8051
Cheers,
Martin

Or the eduard F6F-3 Hellcat Profipack. I did a review on it. Great plane for a beginner as it already has masks, nice easy PE and great mouldings with little gaps that need filler.

I've started out with the P-51 which will be followed by a Spitfire and C-41. First two by Tamiya.

Spitfire all the way! And don't just get one, get one of every Mark!

I highly recommend Eduards Spitfire. It practically falls together and looks great with all the panel line and riveting detail. Plus you get a nice load of PE with their Profi Packs.

Eduard Spitfire Mk IX. If you have little experience with multimedia kits, go for the weekend edition, but if you do, use the profipack.

I follow Joker on this. It's exactly what i'm doing too, with the 1/48 dogfight doubles from airfix. You can't go wrong with these two birds. There's alot of example builds around here and very goid videos of the airfix bf109 on youtube from the adminJoker56 wrote:It depends on your viewpoint , myself I would go for the classic pair first, Spitfire & ME 109
