1/48 Eduard Messerschmitt BF 108b Taifun

Post by JonMW »

This one has been in my stash for a while not just waiting for a reason to build it. It's not the newest Eduard kit and the fit is not as good as the newer ones but it's ok. The plan from the start was to do the tropical scheme included, but now I'm thinking I might do something different.

Build the cockpit straight from the box. Painted in MR Paints RLM02 and given a dark brown oil wash and some pigments on the floor.

Image
Also finished the engine, painted in MR Hobby buff-able dark iron. The engine is really nicely molded with nice details, too bad you can't pretty much see anything of it when it's done.

:pop: That pit looks really comfy. Can't remember what film it was now but they had these pretending to be ME109's...which didn't really work. Von Ryan's Express or something like that.

Probably time to show some progress on this as it's pretty much done now. The fuselage and wings where assembled, it's pretty easy to tell that this isn't Eduards latest kit as there is some fit issues.

But some sprue filler and sanding took care of that and it was primered in Ultimate black and then painted in MR Paints RLM 63.

Then for markings I wanted something a bit different then normal German ones. So I made some masks from 40 mm tape and used some bottles and caps to cut out circles. Then all the markings where painted on using Tamiya XF7.

Time for a final update on this one. I needed a serial number (at least that's what I think it is) so I looked in my decal stash and found this.

Image

Maybe not the the standard Bf 108 decals, but I only needed these.

I then applied a couple of coats of GX100 clear.

Image

And some Ultimate dark dirt.

Image

After applying a coat of MR Paint flat clear I added a oil dot filter using transparent white and yellow ochre.

Also finished the landing gear by adding a thin wire for brake line.

really nice job :th:

I've a few of these builds that don't get finished because of the "fit issues" but you've managed to overcome them and produced a stunning little airplane :

I like your inventiveness for the serial number, nice touch
