"Death from Above!!!" Ric's Italeri 1:48 JU-87 B-2 Stuka Final Reveal

Post by RicRodrigues »

The Stuka is done, ready to bring death from above!!!
It was a nice build of one of the most emblematic planes from the Luftwaffe. Not free from any problems, but in the end, and considering the issues found during the build, I'm quite happy with the final result!!!
This Italeri kit really looked to be a promising one: recent tooling, the option to show the detailed engine, PE included, decals for 4 versions, good reviews on the internet... In my humble opinion, is a good kit, but not outstanding. There are some fitting issues, specially on the wings roots, underside and on the engine cowlings... Oh, the engine cowlings!!! That's why you have the option to build it leaving the engine visible!!! That's how the engine cowlings really fit!!!  Another word for the canopy. It's really nice molded and if you have the patience to mask it by yourselves, will look amazing. Just stay away from the Montex masks like the one I got: it simply won't stick to the plastic. The canopy fitting is not perfect, but I reckon with loads of patience, a most experienced modeller than me might get around that issue. But not everything is bad, and I have to mention the amazing decals (apparently Cartograph decals): never found decals so good, that would conform to the surfaces and raised details so easily like the ones in this kit!!! And for someone that dislikes decaling like me, this ones were a pleasure to work with!!!
In the end, I have to admit, this is a nice kit!!! It's not an easy one, definitely not recomendable for beginers and modellers who easily loose their mojo and/or patience...
An word of appreciation, for everyone involved in this SIG, Paul and all the guys, and everyone that was watching these amazing Stukas coming back to life, under the sound of the diving sirens!!!!

Top job Ricardo, like the heavy weathering around the exhausts.
