SU-76M - 1:35

Post by papatika »

Hi guys!

I bought this kit one month ago, because I was really curious whether Tamiya still can create an AFV on his own, and not just reboxing and pimping up some old kits, and whether its quality can reach the legendary high quality of their aircrafts, cars and motorcycles. The last month was... ummm... awesome! :th: It was a great fun to build, paint, and weather! Here is my final reveal, I hope you'll like it! :)
(The pictures are a bit yellowish imho. I tried to fix it, but it got worst every time, so I gave up. I'm not a big Photoshop-guy :) )

Thanx Tommy!
Looking back the kit was soo user friendly, well designed, great fit, super accuracy, made of high quality plastic... Currently I'm building a Chieftain mk10 from Takom, and though this is also a great kit, I just want the SU back...:
I have only 2 complaints. The first is the lack of PE. The second: next time I'll add one more link to the tracks per side. It is a bit too tight with this predefined sag.

Excellent work! But I have a question. Are the figures intentionally glossy? I've never painted a figure before, but always had the impression that they always have to have a matte finish. Just curious :cheers2:

Hi Sergiotron,

umm... not exactly glossy. The commander's coat is a leather coat, which has a satin finish. The rest of the crew have fabric uniform, which is rather flat. The helmets of the crew are leather again, with a satin finish. They stick a bit out of the vehicle, thus they probably got more light then optimal, and look glossy and not satin. But my intention was a satin finish for all the leather wears, and flat for fabric.

Of course, that makes sense. Thanks for your answer :cheers2:

Great job with the kit. I like the mud splatter and rust on the exhausts. How did you post these pictures? I am on a limited bandwidth network and yours are one of a handful of posts that actually show the images.

For Christmas Santa brought me a lightbox, and a camera for my son. So tonight I made some test shots, and for the subject I chose my SU-76 (I don't really liked the colors of the previous pictures). So here they are:

If - for any reason - you don't see the images above, please let me know, so I can fix the links. Thank you! :)
