Eduard 1/72 F6F-3 Hellcat

Post by JonMW »

My plan was to start off this GB with a small easy build. Just build it straight out of the box, nothing fancy.

I had cut off the engine earlier, so that I could cut off one of the cylinders and make resin copies for an earlier build.

The Hellcat is a great plane. Looks like it should be a fun build. I will be following this one for sure.

Sincerely,

Richard

doing photo etch on 72nd scale you must have nerves of steel and ice-water running thru your vanes..

As always happy modeling and keep sticking styreen.

Some of the PE is ridiculously small, but in the end it's worth it. The cockpit is done, nothing special just painted and a couple of different color oil washes.

I then got the wings and fuselage together, just needs a little bit of filler and sanding.

Holy crap, that cockpit is blowing my mind. Compared to my 1:72 I think I just dumped a pot of black paint on it said "job done."

Stunning. Simply stunning.

Thanks a lot for the comments guys!

I have finished the engine, just painted in aluminium, added the PE plug leads and finally gave it an oil wash.

Thanks guys!

Finally got my computer up and running again so I can upload pictures. Got the plane painted using MIGs US Navy set. I'm not sure how accurate the colors are. From looking at some pictures it looks like the dark blue might be a bit too grey, but then looking at other pictures it looks pretty good in shade but a bit light. But I'm happy with it so I'll keep it.

Image

After the paint it was given a few thin coats of Tamiya X22 followed by a dusting of Mr Hobby leveling thinner. And then the decals where applied. Next up is anouther coat of clear and then start on the weathering.

Looks hellcat-erific! I think the colors look right. It's less about how exact the colors are and more how do the colors feel. It's a tiny airplane, sometimes being exact would actually look wrong, if you take my meaning.

But not this case, I think they're actually pretty close and the feel right to me!

Nice, but shouldn't the central gear casing be a gray colour?
