Tamiya 1/350 IJN Submarine I-400 - Reveal

Post by rodrant »

So here it is the IJN I-400 submarine from Tamiya ...

A very nice kit , my first 1/350 scale one ...

about the kit , must say it is a Tamiya kit ...all fits nicely , instructions are very clear , and a wondefull booklet with a lot of info on this submarine and his story ... nicely detailed for the scale and you can build a very nice model OOB .

You have a samll base to depict one of the Aichi Seiran planes in detail with a small standing base ,

About my build , I choose to have two detailed kits from Tamiya , some PE for rails and torpedoes and one for 1/350 figures , all are nice and can bring a lot of detail .Also you can have the torpedoes that this sub used depicted in some sort of storage rack .

about this detailed PE , if you use it be aware to use the drill bit they advice : 0,4 diameter ...not so nice in the end if you use a large drill bit ! Also a lot of tiny PE to use in periscope and athenas , I choose to depict the submarine with all the detail , Periscopes up , diving rudders unfold , it is a pitty that you can't see inside the hangar to see the Seirans with the wings folded , but ...here are some photos , not the best build from me I admit and still a lot to learn , here it is my 3rd entry in this GB and I'm happy that I finished them all now :

Very nice looking model Antonio : I have always liked the idea of a submarine aircraft carrier. Great work with the P.E and the tiny Seiran really set off the rusty weathered hull perfectly :thumb1:

The Group build doesn't end for another 2 months, still plenty of time for another entry :nena:

Thank you Andrew ! Well I was thinking that having two months and a lot of Japanese WWII kits in my stash it is a pity not to try to finish another one ...a Bomber :th:

Fabulous job, Antonio! :) :thumb1: :thumb1:

It's cool that the float planes could go under water without any leaks, and that the Guns weren't affected by the salt water when submerged! ;)~

Great work a beautiful model! The torpedoes look like little match sticks. Hopefully you don't have any legally blind smokers coming through looking for a light!
