Revell Handley Page Halifax B.MK.II (GR.MKII)

Post by Jamesday1998 »

Image

Image

so i have decided to do the handley page halifax from revell but rather than doing the normal black, dark earth and green that represents the night time bombers i will be doing the the coastal command variant

heres some reference pics
Image

Image

Image

heres the revell colour call out of:
No58 squadron RAF, Stornoway, Scotland, early 1945
Image

and the top
Image

so lets get onto the sprues and i have to say this is a absolute bargain for under 20 quid!
the heap of sprues!
Image

another nice touch from revell is doubled up sprues!
Image

heres the wings
Image

Image

and a zoom in on the awesome panel lines :jd:
Image

heres the fuselage half from the outside
Image

sorry about the quality but heres the panel lines
Image

and heres the cockpit and this is were the worst part is
no it isnt the detail but rather the tiny little ejecter pin mark!! :bash:
Image

the same on the bombay!!!! come on revell :bash:
Image

some of the insides
Image

i have cut the sprue shots short because theres just so many of them!!
so here is the decals that are in perfect register and are thin :th:
Image

the instructions
Image

instruction 1
Image

to instruction 99!!
Image

this is it for the inbox review a bit of history will be on its way soon! :th:

heres some quick shots of my dry fitting of the aircrafts fuselage and wings

Image

the fit is very good in most places plus the reason why its doesn't look to good is because the tape didn't hold it together to well
Image

and with the wings

so here is my first update for this build

the finished painted cockpit side wall 1
Image

heres it after a wash
Image

i used three different washes to create different shading effects
Image

and a little dry brushing
Image

the other side wall
Image

the rear undercarriage
Image

after weathering
Image

this time i used the flory washes and this
Image
i put it on in streaks and then added enamal thiners to it to make it thinner and clench to the raised bits

after that i thought i might as well put the windows in but one was missing
Image

i couldn't find it so i thought i might a well use this for the first time!
Image

so i chose a spot and taped the front of the window up
Image

and then applyed the micro klear from the inside
Image

it turned out like this and i am pretty happy with it
Image

this is my progress so far and apart from the mysterious disappearance of the window this kit has treated me well and i can
not wait to do more on it! :th:

nice progress on your halifax
i still have to put my update on it on my thread
i don't know if you started on the engines but i find that they are very easy to missaline( hope i spelled that right)
i had to sand a pretty big seemline from mine
but otherwise this kit falls together
best of luck with your build
cheers Mark

Looking good so far!!! :th:
Painted, washed and dry brushed I dont Think the ejector pin marks will be a problem by the looks of it.
They kind of blend into the busy background.

Tip: Hard to get to pin marks can be sanded out with a pointy sanding bit on the Dremel.
But one has to be careful...a slip can be costly! (low rpm or the plastic is gone in no time)

Tip: Dont tape when using Kristal Klear, just gently "smear it in" starting at the edges, until the hole is full, gently pull out the stick. The Surface tension in the PVA will hold it in place by itself.
That way it hardens really crystal clear when drying in the open.

:cheers2:

James, great progress!!! :thumb2:
Love what You have done so far and great vid! (tip: when you show detail parts try to shoot them on a black or blue background, then things show much better)
The windows turned out just fine, did You try to use kristal klear "on its own" without tape?
Just love the way your not afraid to try things, thats the best way to learn, just keep doing it.
Great build so far! :th: :th: :th:

This is another plane, like the Lancaster, that I don't have much knowledge of here in the USA. Watching your build, though, is making it much more interesting to me. You are doing such fine work on this!

Coming on nicely James. I thought the Revell Halifax was a raised detail kit, but I guess they re-tooled it at somepoint. I built the older one, with the raised detail when I was younger. Found a lonely rudder from it last time I was at my parents too lol.

Coastal Command one should look good!

after taking a couple of weeks off this build not because its an awful kit but just because its a long build, i decided to sit down and do a bit more work on the kit :th:

it may not be very much progress but i have learnt how to rescribe panel lines during the build! :th:
so i will show you the side walls of the front of the cockpit
Image
i added a wash and the clear parts, i also did a small bit of dry brushing but not to much :th:

when i put the fuselage halves together there was a slight seam right near the cockpit!
i find the problem with this is the dust that youve made from sanding gets in the cockpit and it gets stuck in there :bash:
Image

again on the front of the fuselage there was a gap! more filling!
Image

i didnt want to display the bomb bay so i dint paint it in the end :th:
Image

for sanding i will be using these magical tools!
VImage

for rescribing
Image

after many attempts at rescribing i finally got a semi decent attempt :th:
Image

Image

Image

this is the end of the update hope your enjoying the build so far and i hope all your builds are going well :th:
