What are you going to build?

Post by Lee »

So, now the sections open and we have a week to amuse ourselves(!) before the start, what are you going to build for the Steel Rain SiG?

Me, I will be building this for sure...

And, if I feel I'll have time I will have a go at this too.....

The V1 looks pretty cool, looking forward to seeing that built up.

I went into my local model shop today and saw one of these...

But then I saw one of these...

I like the look of the Meng Kit, hope you get a chance to build it Lee.

A couple of nice options there Draz, looking forward to seeing which one you go with.

I will build this, in travel mode.

I then hope to build this to tow it. If time allows.

I am not sure that the V1 and V2 count as artillery. They are after all early guided missiles and Lee himself quoted a source which stated that missiles don't count as artillery, since they are well....missiles...

But up to Lee and Paul ultimately.

Hollywood Modelling. I don't think rockets strapped to a tank really count as artillery. That's a modification to just give a tank a slightly more versatile use. Its not the same as a Nebelwerfer, or Katayusha rocket system for example, but again Lee and Paul have the final say.

I will be doing this kit. Most undoubtedly artillery!

I'm sure in Lee's definition, stuff with internal guidance didn't count as arty? So that would be v1, v2 and scud out. Just putting my spanner in the works! Lol!

Dude! I don't think anyone is upset! Just a little confusion. Lee has given you the ok for the v2, so you're good to go. I was just questioning why v1 and v2 are allowed, but not the scud.

Right folks - I don't want anymore confusion over this bloody SiG, it's meant to be fun so, here goes...

It was my fault to say that V1s & V2s were allowed. I (stupidly) thought that as their systems were extremely basic (just a gyroscope) they would pass, but due to it opening up a can of worms I will not be building my V1 now, I will have a crack at the AUF 1 I have, if I get time.

Now, Tony went out and splashed the cash on the two kits on the back of me saying that it was alright for the V2 to be in the SiG. So, I am allowing Tony to enter the V2 as this has cost him money to enter and it was totally my fault. If any one has a problem with that PM me :th:

So, so as not to cause any more confusion and with that in mind, if it isn't a field gun, specifically made SPG, cannon, large mortar, specifically made howitzer or specifically made AA gun then it's not allowed. That goes for any vehicle that has been converted into an AA or rocket launcher or any such. If it's original purpose wasn't for that of artillery (or AA) then it is not allowed, full stop.....

Any further questions regarding the validity of an entry should be directed to T3hGuppy as the GB Team Leader...

Over & out :D

As the man says we have a clear set of subjects that can be entered.

Earlier in the thread I post that I was tempted to get the Hobby Boss version, which is newer and more accurate than the Hasegawa model, however the PE fits both, although there is one specific to Hobby Boss too. It'll be interesting to compare the two, I plan on getting mine possibly tomorrow or early next week and will try and do a video review for you.

Chief, just to clarify that your M10 will not be suitable for this SiG either mate. Even if they were occasionally used in the indirect fire role (I am not sure on this, the elevation on the gun wasn' that great and plus they fired anti-tank, not HE rounds). So while on occasion they may have been used in this role, it was not designed for this and is a dedicated anti-tank gun. So sorry dude, it won't be acceptable.

It's been sitting in my stash for a couple of years waiting for a real good excuse to be built...

As for the eligibility issue, it's was a SPG prototype that used the 105 mm leFH 18/1 L/28 artillery gun.

Only 10 were ever made and some were used on the eastern front.
"Although 200 vehicles were ordered, Krupp completed only 10 prototypes in the final four months of 1942.[2] These saw service on the Eastern Front" Wikipedia

So Guppy if there are any issues about this one just say so and I'll get something else. :cheers2:

Now excuse me why I hunt in the stash for a kit to build!!
So the German Flak 88 is allowed then?

It's been sitting in my stash for a couple of years waiting for a real good excuse to be built...

As for the eligibility issue, it's was a SPG prototype that used the 105 mm leFH 18/1 L/28 artillery gun.

Only 10 were ever made and some were used on the eastern front.
"Although 200 vehicles were ordered, Krupp completed only 10 prototypes in the final four months of 1942.[2] These saw service on the Eastern Front" Wikipedia

So Guppy if there are any issues about this one just say so and I'll get something else. :cheers2:

All good with this one a very intresting subject.

Can the kit be built with the turret removed? As this seems to be how they where going to be used.

Indeed it can, but as it lacks the complete hull interior, plan A is to get a aftermarket interior for it, if I can find it. Plan B is to have it displayed with the turret but with lifted cranes as if the crew was preparing to take the turret off.

Some great models there chaps!

Well, I was going to do this, but...

...I've actually built and primed three of the figures (the gun's un-started so I might do it later, if time permits). So, inspired by some of the superb braille-scale models on this site, I will be doing a 1/76 WW1 British 18pdr with crew. Photos when it arrives

Hey Gupps, are mobile AA allowed? Like a panzer IV chassis with flak 38 on top? Just wondering if they come under the 'original purpose' rule, cos obviously panzer IV was originally a tank.

Cheers dude!
