Great wok, you're a very talented modeler! I think the debris looks good, but some thatching from the roof would be really cool. You might even be able to use real grass, if you find some really thin stuff. Happy modelling!

Debris for buildings is always a difficult thing to balance.
In reality the debris from a building is an enormous pile of chaos and disorder and it's almost impossible to discern what the original structure was.
Most of the remains of the building are usually buried beneath the rubble.
As modellers we have to find the balance between reality and what is visually appealing.
There's no solid rule that I'm aware of other than More rubble is good rubble.

Next i put on the tracks. I kept the running gear moveable so in order to take advantage of that i wanted to incorporate a small obstacle on the street. I decided to use a broken off telegraph pole from Tamiya. With some pressure the running gear adapts nicely to the uneven surface.


Then i primed the ruin and acessoires black. I intend to paint the ruin and debris frist, then i will apply the mud, grass and snow.

I got more work done on this project today, i´m very happy about that


Vallejo rust pigments were used for the rust effects on the exhaust.


I drybrushed the edges of the model with the brighten up sand yellow base colour and applied some chipping effects using a dark metallic colour. The chips were made with a Q-tip stick, i dipped it into the paint and dab it on some areas which are prone to chipping. Finally i drybrushed the whole model carefully with iron paint to create the metallic glare on the tank. I´m afraid that effect is not really visible on the pictures.


The tank commander is finished now, he is already glued in place.


I noticed the quite messy frontplate of the tank, so why not adding this detail to my model too?


I used dried plants from my garden and glued them with wood glue.


Some leaked oil on the rear of the tank. I used AK Interactive "oil stains".


The rust stains were made with MIG "light rust effects".


I really like how the weathering looks so far! Mud and dust will follow later when i position the tank on the diorama.


I also got some work on the diorama done! I painted the walls white using my airbrush.


Fence and bare stones were painted with a brush. The rubble will be painted with the airbrush again but this will have to wait til tomorrow.

I really like the diorama base

I worked like a madman on the diorama today


Next i painted the rubble with the airbrush. I also accentuated some stones of the walls by painting them with different tones of grey. In order to weather the fence a pit i applied some brown paint with a sponge to create some chipping effects.


The wooden parts were painted by brush using "earth brown". I also added a wooden door and hod. Now the building looks more like an agricultural shed.


Next i applied a wash (black oil paint and turpentine) all over the ruin.


I painted the telegraph pole the usual way. Then i glued stretched plastic sprues on the isolators. Later i painted the wires black.


Next i mixed earth from my garden, wood glue and water together in order to create this earth paste. I applied it with an old big brush and pressed the telegraph pole into the wet surface. Same with the tank model, by pressing it into the surface you can create track marks in the dirt. Simultaneously i used the same earth paste to create mud effects on the tank. In order to give it a wet look i mixed it with glossy varnish.


Then i applied a coat of Woodland Scenics "water effects". I dilluted it with water and poured it over the still wet earth. This way i wanted to create the look of wet mud.

Let it snow! I mixed "Rast Deranauo" snow powder, water and wood glue together and applied it with an old brush.


It became a bit more snowy than i intended but i like it anyway.


I wanted to create the look of fresh snow, like it has snowed in the past night for the first time.


Thats the look i wanted to reproduce. First snow does not cover everthing right away, more distance to the ground means more snow accumulation because the earth is warmer than the walls and debris of the ruin. On a muddy street it is unlikely to have a solid snow cover right away as the moisture prevents the snow from accumulating. Anyway, its not science but model building


Some plants got placed into the still wet snow.


This is quite creative and makes a lot of fun. It really improves the natural look of the whole scene.




Thats how it looks now. It needs some time to dry now.


Next i will paint the frame of the diorama black and thats it The finishline is infront of me already.


I think i posted this pic before already, it provided the inspiration for this diorama.

Alright, let´s finish this up


I painted the frame of the diorama with black acrylic paint and cut the name label from the box of the tank kit. Then i glued it in place. May look a bit shabby but for me the diorama itself matters!

And here we go: My finished "Holy Toledo, its a Panzer II" SIG entry showing a Panzerkampfwagen II Ausführung L of the 4th Panzer Division in Russia, early winter 1943.

I have had a long spell off YouTube but hope to return within the week..

Been busy catching up on this forum and also various Christmas preparations, as I will be working all over Christmas as usual, only having the night between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off..

Have completed the old Airfix 1/72 BAC Lightning F2, wanted to get it done before the new kit is out.. and I have also just finished the Revell 1/72 JagdPanzer. Have posted photos of the Lightning on the forum (aircraft section) but as yet haven't had time to post the JagdPanzer..

I also need to complete a British motortorpedoboat (Revell 1/72 Vosper MBT) before next Monday as it will be my entry for the Land, Sea and Air competition my club have every year in December.. but I should still have plenty time to complete the little Panzer II before the time is up!

PS: The base for the JagdPanther is only thrown together to show off the vehicle.. it is quite basic!
