I missed the last couple of updates but the addition of the fuel lines to the external tanks is taking the detail to another level - awesome work :cheers2:

The turret's not too shabby either :)
Cheers, Neil

Onto the painting.
Gave it a couple of coats of Vallejo black primer, first time using it, all seems ok so far :th:

Image

I’m using the Mig Russian modulation set to paint it.

Image

First of all I use the darkest shade to paint the dark areas and around hatches etc.

Image

Second darkest shade was then sprayed alongside the dark areas.

Image

Then filled the remaining ares with the second lightest shade.

The lightest shade was used on the raised details and the weld seams.

A coat of clear was added before the weathering.
Next was to do a blue filter over it.
Using Revell enamel thinners and a touch of matt 56 mixed together in a empty jar so I can use it again in the future.

Image

It was brush on using a large brush in continuous strokes.

Image
Image

Once dry, thinned green, white, yellow, brown and blue oil paint was dabbed over it then brushed with thinners in a downward direction. Thinned blue oil paint was put in corners and around various parts then thinned again to give a bit of shadowing.

Awesome work on the colour modulation mate - that looks stunning!

Did those mig paints need much thinning down for airbrushing?
Cheers, Neil

I used about a 50/50 mix for them which worked ok for me, but it’s just a cheap Chinese copy airbrush that I use, so would probably be different for other brushes

To do the chipping, I used the small bit of sponge/foam on a pair off tweezers lightly dipped into the light green that I used for the base colour, and lightly dabbed on various parts of the hull and turret, not to many as I’m not wanting an overly worn looking vehicle. Then using a small brush, several individual chipping was done overall. Then with a small brush again, the dark green was put inside the light chips.

Image

Using a rust wash, I lightly brushed it on the chipping then a quick wash down with thinners to give it a slight rusty look

Image

Image

The last stage of weathering I’m going to use is some pigments placed with a dry brush in areas that I thought looked good, then with a brush, I secured the pigments in place with some thinners.

I’m sure there’s an easy way of fitting theses tracks, hopefully I’ll find it one day
After a bit of trial and error and the links coming apart a couple of times, they were fitted

Image

Image

The last few parts almost ready to be fitted

Image

Fitting the kit supplied tow cables looked like they would be more hassle than they were worth, so set about making new ones from wire

Image

Image

Image

Started by cutting off the ends and drilled them out, started with a small drill bit before using one that was the diameter of the wire to be fitted

Image

Image

Image

Because I had fitted the tow hook parts to the hull already, the tow cable won’t go over them, so I sliced through one end so I could open it up and fix it over the hook

Image

Using CA glue, I secured the ends to the wire

Image

Image

Image

Painted then weathered

Image

Image

Cutting off the aerial turned out to be fun, new part required, a bit of brass wire and all is good

Image

Image

Onto the fuel drums, a bit fiddly but job done

Image

Image

MG and aerial fitted

Image

Running gear all weathered up

Image

Image

And all is done

Thanks for the info on the paint thinning mate - and more awesome work on the detailing up and painting.

This is absolutely superb - really looking forward to seeing the finished article.
