Tamiya 1/72 A6M3/3a Zero m22 Reveal

Post by LudvigN »

This is the best kit ive ever had the joy of putting together. I had hight expectations on this kit, and I must say, it did not disappoint me at any point. The only filler I used was at the fusilage halves, and that was oly because I sanded down too much! The fit is so good that the engine cowling and the landing gear is a loose fit. I did almost anything to ruin this kit, I spilled paint on it twice, I completely ruined the first gloss coat due to rough surface. That made it hard to put on the decals. After some light sanding, I managed to get them on, with alot of softener. I hade to weather the decals by removing the carrier film just to make the silvering go away.

The model turned out alot darker than I initially wanted, and thats something to learn the next time I paint japanese aircraft. The kit does not include rigging, so I added it myself using EZline. This build was a relaxing build to get my mojo, and boy did I get it back?! ;) Enjoy these pictures!

Paints: Mig Ammo grey primer, Tamiya XF-11 for the top side, Tamiya XF-12 for the underside, AKAH Emerald cockpit for the wheel wells
Weathering: Chipping using citadel metallics, Ultimate dark dirt, Flory model black and grey, ink-wash, dry brushing and weathering the decals using enamel thinners, tamiya weathering stick for the exhaust stains
Extras: EZline rigging.

WIP

+ Amazing fit
+ Impeccable design
+ Wonderful canopy
+ World class surface detail
+ Very nice cockpit detail for this scale
+ Easy to build

- Decals (normal Tamiya standard)
- May have ruined other kits for me

The underside was washed with Flory model wash Black/grey and the top was Ultimate Dark dirt with some Flory model Black wash. The wheel wells was weathered with dry brushing and home made ink-wash.
