Great idea! I saw one in an old Fine Scale Modeler magazine and it makes a neat diorama. Also, that storm trooper? Sweeeeeet! :jd:

Wow, I paid $65 CAD for the Fine Molds X Wing shipped
The Bandai was $29.70 shipped
I think I will do the Bandai kit this sig and hold onto the Fine Molds kit for now
Is it worth keeping as a collector??

The base was from the Vietnam group build last year. I bailed on this base as it was too busy, but should work for the X Wing after I shorten the length a bit.
The kit looks great, awesome instruction photos, just solid Japanese, no English at all
But will print off the translations I posted above
I need to find a little scale Yogurt guy for in the trees

Thanks to both you gents for stopping in and commenting
Much appreciated :cheers2: :cheers2:

I have had a hard time starting out on this sig, so yes it is great to find a base as a head start!

We have a house build that will start this summer, hopefully and take.... oh like forever
Just rented a house and look to move in July....so my spare time and modelling may suffer for a while.

I am not as much a Star Wars aficionado, but I think so yes that is the movie, where he first meets yoghurt
I am going to have to re-watch them to be sure, but the scene is he has landed in the swamp and is just getting out and it is all mysterious and foggy

I got nothing done on the project this weekend, helping son build a mini windmill for school, looking for houses to rent and planning the destruction and construction of our new house. No model time at all :ooops:

What???? Sorry guys. It was Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Remember the ice planet Hoth? Luke was lost and delusional and saw the ghost of Obi Wan, telling him to go to Degobah. You'll find the scene after the battle on Hoth and Luke breaks off to go to Degobah and the rest of the crew end up in Cloud City. I've watched it a couple of times.

Keen on seeing how you tackle the swamp water on your dio, I have never attempted anything like that.

Ha ha you and me both keen to see how I will do that!
There are a few water dio builds in ISM I can think of and one of my two LHS had water products. It will be pretty swampy so at least it will hide things....I would think always easier to make dark mucky colours than pristine blue sparkling water

While I babble along here, might as well show something I did.
R2 got finished last night and Luke primed grey
Image

I am not happy with either the silver or the blue on R2 BUT he is going to be well weathered from space travel and a swampy landing so won't freak too much.
I think the blue Tamiya is old paint or something ; just won't lay properly, doesn't thin nicely and the flow sucks. Will get a new pot for the larger R2 kit when I do it and use Alclad or true metal on his head

R2 looks great! This scene is a neat idea. I've seen it done once before, in a Fine Scale Modeler special edition. I went looking in my collection and found it too! In the Great Scale Modeling 1998 is a build done by a guy named Dan Thompson of Alabama, USA. He used the MPC kit though since that was what was available at the time. Here is a scan from the magazine, maybe it will help inspire you! Although, I think his water is too clean looking, it should be much muddier to hide the monsters!

I think your R2 looks pretty nice!

RE: Dbmiller. I agree that the water looks too clean, needs to be murkier. Also, I think you should fabricate some sort of mini-dry ice machine for some bog fog. If you built up the sides of the dio base a little you, could contain the fog from just falling off. Just a thought!

It's definitely brown.

Image

I thought this was a neat idea too.

A bit rough and I went a bit overboard on washing them, especially Luke. Looks like they have been crawling around in a swamp or something.

Where would intergalactic rebels launder their clothes? Space is sort of big and I don't think the X-wings had appropriate facilities for human functions and hygiene. Maybe R2 doubles as a washing machine? Your figures look great!

Keep 'em laughing and maybe they won't notice the lacklustre modelling and photography
Image

In that far away mess of fuzziness, R2 has copper tubes at his feet and hex nuts at his shoulders just to look more solid
Luke is sporting custom side helmet logos, a smoking cool chrome/ clear orange visor and decals, not stickers....the Bandai stickers peel away

For the cockpit, cut off some moulded tubing, added brass tubes and some hifi wire from a speaker. Painted the seat cushion leather, space cows don't you know, made seat belts with the rebel logo for the buckle. Then pin washes, oil stains that sort.
Perhaps a more detailed picture is in order

Gotta stop working until 2am....terrible pic and I stabbed my pointer finger with the Exacto cleaning dried paint off the jar neck....blood everywhere

Well, you have the blood covered now (pun intended). Did you happen to have any tears with it? Modelling doesn't quite invoke sweating, but you never know with some people. Modelling while tired is hazardous to you and the project. Stay safe out there!

You're modelling is great, don't beat yourself up.

Thanks Mincemeat, good to know someone cares
There was a fair bit of choice swearing....the dog moved away from her spot under the desk to get out of the way of my spaz, but I had my hands full of paint so I just soldiered on and finished the scraping and cleaned my blood up after...wasn't so bad
