Airfix 1/72 north american P-51D mustang...

Post by bullgill67 »

Finally got my kit yesterday from Jamiesons in Glasgow:banana:

Image

the detail looks fantastic for a 1/72 kit

Image

decals dont look too bad at all either

Image

what i am going to try to do is hand paint it with some mr. hobby metal colours that i have and try get some tonal variations on the different panels using slightly varying shades of the paint.

Image

well thats the plan anyway  it could turn out to be a car crash, but it will be a fun experiment to see if i can pull it off and at £5.99 for the kit what can go wrong :bash:

It's a great kit for the money.

One thing I'll say about the mr hobby buff able is make sure you seal it with a good clearcoat before masking as I found the tape pulls the paint off.

right ho!

update time - got the cockpit done. painted up and given a wash and dry brushed to try and bring the detail out a bit.

i also made some seat belts out of masking tape and painted them a buff colour just to try and liven the seat up a bit.

well it looks like it's back to the drawing board as regards the mr.metal paint :wall:

i have a old spitfire kit so i thought i would see how the paint went down on that.

it looks like it's gonna be too large an area to cover with a brush - just too many brush marks are being left that wont buff out :eeek:

Image

so i had a rumage about and found a old tin of humbrol metal cote so i will give that a try next.

here she sits patiently waiting for her paint

Image

nothing ventured nothing gained as they say, it was worth a try :violin:

cheers

I think it's too thin to brush paint, best of luck with the metal coat.

Paul i think thats the problem it's just too thin a paint although it brushes on great over a smaller area  not to worry onwards and upwards !

Nige - good luck with that mate :eeek: i think i would lack a bit of patience for that :bash:

Nice job painting the accent colors on your Mustang.
Are you planning on using the pilot figure? It looked fairly decent a molding from the sprue shots.
Keep building and having Fun.
