TechHead wrote:Hi there,
I'm in exactly the same boat as you, 30 or so years away from modelling and now back to it with a passion! I have never owned an airbrush before, and after just finishing off my first model using hand-brushing I really think an airbrush may be in order. Although, hand brushing is fine I just don't feel that even with a lot of practice that the finish will be close to that found using an airbrush.
So.... I was wondering if you could give me any advice/feedback on the airbrushing kit you bought as the setup I had already specc'ed up was pretty much identical to yours, apart from the airbrush.
After now using it for a while, do you find the spray booth effective enough to eliminate any spray into the room, and how good is it an getting rid or odour. I like the portable nature of this particular spray booth (as it seems pretty quitet from the You Tube review vids I've watched) as I don't currently have anywhere permanent to set up shop in the house (not until I fix the garage door, build some shelves and move the contents of the garden shed to it

).
Also, how are you finding the compressor - good starter airbrush compressor? It seems to be the most popular and available compressor out there, and seems pretty good value with the air tank. The TC-610H seems like a nice little unit, though I'm not sure I can justify the extra £100 cost of it at the moment.
I was thinking of going with the H&S Ultra 2 in 1, was there a reason you went for the Evolution Solo instead (and forfeited the 2 in 1 option) - is it that much better?
Any feedback or advice much appreciated, thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Simon
Hi Simon
My advice is to speak to the chaps at
www.air-craft.net, that was the advice from Paul and Lee and it was great advice. I had some money from Birthdays and O/T and the missus had given consent so half the problems were gone
My thoughts on the Spray Booth......it's okay.
The acrylics are dealt with i.e smell and vapour.
I did find though that prolonged spraying more than an hour then the missus was smelling it down-wind so to speak, and even with door closed.
Man-Cave window open and exhaust poking through. But any wind coming to the window, and vapours are back in room. That's whey I wear a 3M mask (also from Air-Craft)

.
The portable nature of the booth is brilliant for me. I just cannot have at the moment a dedicated "pitch" for all of my kit. So I do have to pack away after each session.
Obviously if money was no option then you can go as mad as you like.......
It's a great buy for the money.
The Compressor is brilliant. The price and quality is top notch. One thing I have noticed and wonder how many it's caught out...prolonged use makes bits of compressor hot. I mean hot enough to not want to cuddle unit

For a starter unit its not going to be beaten. Early days and all that but its impressed me and I really do take convincing....

Go with it and if you want to upgrade say down the line, then fine but this is a good unit for starter and medium modellers.
The AB question, mmmmh....
I researched and listened and thought good and hard. I'm not rolling in money and then again who is. I tossed and turned and thought long about the Ultra and the Evolution.
My honest opinion of the process was this. A. It was a toss of a coin. B. By as much as you can, i.e. More bang for the Dollar.....
The Evolution is awesome. Its a joy to use and really easy to strip and clean. The more you use it the more you love it (like the wife

).
If you need any more advice or questions answered just PM me or reply. I am more than happy to answer questions on this kit I have.
NB: Whatever AB, Compressor or Air Booth you buy, please include the cleaning kit, especially the Ultimate Cleaner and the little Cleaning Kit with Reamer (
http://www.air-craft.net/acatalog/Nozzl ... Brush.html), its a great bit of kit for cleaning the nozzle.
Take care Simon
