Dragon 1:35 Panzerspahwagen Sdkfz. 234/4

Post by alextheblue »

Technically this isn't actually finished as I've missed a few bits off of the build, but in terms of painting, weathering etc. it's about as done as it's going to get. I started building this kit back in June last year, but got distracted by few other things and this got put to one side. Now I don't quite know how it happened, but I managed to lose a couple of sprues and for love nor money i can't find them anywhere. I don't have a huge stash, about 6 kits in all, so I know they haven't been put in another box by mistake. I could buy the sprues that I'm missing, but on reflection I decided to press on and "finish" this as best as I can. I've grabbed a couple of bits off of other kits that were spare and the bits that are now missing are only fairly minor - like the gun, the wheels..................I'm kidding!! :eeek:

The build is OOB and the paint for the camo was Mr Hobby Color. This is a first go at camo for me and I decided to dive straight in a do it freehand - not the best of finishes, but it'll do for me and it's all practice right. Wash was a very diluted burnt umber oil wash and the dust/dried dirt effect was a mix of Ultimate's Light Dirt and Dark Dirt. The whole thing was then misted with Tamiya buff. Chipping was done with a mix of metallic black, alumunium and burnt iron (again Mr Hobby), but I tried to keep this to a minimum.

This is my third fully completed model and I must say, I'm really starting to like the whole painting and weathering process. In the past I preferred the construction side of things and the thought of weathering turned my blood cold. But, thanks mainly to ISM and all the great people on the forum, I plucked up the courage to dive in and have a go.

I'm still struggling to find somewhere suitable to take decent pictures as everywhere I try the light just doesn't seem right. I was quite surprised at how "clean" the model looks in these pics and the interior isn't quite as visible as I would have liked, but you get the general idea hopefully.

Thanks for taking a look! :th:

Your misgivings aside Alex, this is really well done buddy!
That weathering came out brilliantly. That's fine use of skill and products my friend.
I love this. Spahwagens are a pain to build, but you made her shine.
Well as well as a dirty piece of armour can haha.

Thanks Mike, really appreciate that!

You actually helped me with the colour of the interior for this when I first started building it way back when. :th:

I did?
Oh wait... I remember now. You were asking if the exterior and interior colours of open topped AFVs were the same... Haha. Wow... that seems like a hundred years ago.
That's amazing.
Well you certainly sorted it out Alex.
