so here i have a inbox review of the Baureihe 52 mit steifrahmen tender or commonly known as the BR 52 in 1/35 scale by Trumpeter
this is one of the biggest kits out there and the biggest when it comes to trains and locomotives
the box is packed with sprues and parts when you open it
so here i have a list on the numbers/specs
length: 886 mm
width : 87 mm
height : 134,2 mm
parts : 710 pcs
sprues : 15 pcs (ex rails, clear sprue and rail bedding)
clear parts: 1 sprue
PE : 1 sheet
vinyl parts : 1
year of release : 2005

the paint ing and markings guide (it only has a colorchart for mr color paints)
the instructions this has a total of 36 pages and 32 steps to build the locomotive and the tender
and the kit supplied rails and bedding
the instructions have 26 steps to build the locomotive and just 5 for the tender (which is a simplified war time design)
so lets get to the parts

the railbedding looks ok i guess but if you want a better look use fine gravel or stones that you can use for a fish tank

the rails them selves you get 2 of these sprues

the clear parts

the decals a bit hard to see but they look nice and as with most railway kits by Trumpeter the decals show no swastika's (if you want the historically correct decals there are some brands that make them)
and the sheet of PE it is not that much just some parts for window covers

2 times
wheels and some other parts for the tender

detail shot of the same sprue looks nice nothing wrong with this

the parts for the upper section of the tender not many parts its all big and simple

as are these

and these aswell they are all very big

2 times
parts for the locomotive mostly wheels and parts for the under carriege

close up one a drive wheel

more parts for the frame

arms for the wheels and the walk ways

note the surface of the walkways

the frame sides and most of the smaller parts for the lower section

2 times
brakes and suspension

frame parts and the aerodynamic shields

the drivers cabine

the boiler and steam engine parts

the detail on the boiler like panel lines and rivets

the only vinyl/rubber parts (these are pipes that leed from the sand box on top of the boiler to the wheels for extra traction in the winter and fall)
so all in all this is a big project to build but should be a nice one (i know this is my second

this is not a very easy kit but is a nice challenge that takes it's time to come together
so i have some pro's and cons on this kit for you
Pro's:
good fit of the parts (thanks to my other br 52)
good details straight from the box
intresting subject and it's something diffrent from a plane or tank
Cons:
PRICE this thing normally costs about 100 to 110 euro's so it is expensive
paint charts now they only mention one brand but you can find charts to compare the paints to the ones you want to use (small effort i even think these charts are here on the forum)
also there are several aftermarket sets for this kit
i know that voyager has some kits and one from the proffesional serries aswell and i did see this one at a convention but it costs even more then this kit does so that should give you something to think about before hitting the buy button on those kits
in my opinion this is a real nice kit
and i can recommend it to everyone just take your time and you will end up with a real eyecatcher
so let me know what you think (as this is my first review)
and if you have a question just ask
cheers Mark
