1/35th Tamiya Panzer Kampfwagen II Ausf. F/G

Post by ComradeBrad »

Everyone else was doin the 1/35th Tamiya Panzer so I had to see what all the fuss is about! Recently subscribed to Mr. Toledo's youtube channel and watched a couple of his tutorials. Thought it would be fitting to apply some of the new things I learned from him on the build carrying his name. I got a few finals this week then I got tons of free time before the deadline. Can't wait to get started!

It's a really rare kit. I'm pretty lucky to have found it.

UPDATE #1: Got off work real early today so I sat down for a marathon build. Here's some pics!
This is just the wheels. Had to use some clothes pins to hold the front wheels together. They didn't want to stay in place.

I decided that I would go with the G, so I added the storage on that back of the turret.

I figured out that the ramp looking piece on this side was supposed to be some sort of protection for the antenna when it was down. I wanted the antenna up so I snipped the base of the antenna from it and drilled a little hole for it to fit in on the side. Then I made an antenna out of the sprue and glued it on.

Set all the pieces together to see what it will look like.

I added some little bags to the side of the storage on this side. I feel like there wasnt much going on, lots of flat surfaces, so I just wanted to add something to break it up a bit. Nothing too crazy.

Hopefully I'll get some paint on it tomorrow and add some more updates. Got some studying to do for my Russian History exam Thursday, so we'll see! Thanks for checkin it out guys.

This update includes primer through decals. I sadly knocked off the antenna when i was painting it :wall: , so I'm just going to add it on when I'm done.

Great job so far dude.

I hate plastic aerials always brake on me and I end up stabbing myself with metal replacements lol.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I need to get an airbrush. The cans always seem to put the paint on too thick :(

Last update before reveal tomorrow! The first 2 things I did I learned from Luis himself on his youtube page.
Oil Paint Rust:

Mud Making:

And the last 2 are supposed to show my pastel dusting. I covered the whole model in a yellowish dust and then I put some rusty dusty on the muffler to make it less shiny and a little more texture like its rusty. I also added some black dust to the end of the cannon for some smutty/sooty kinda thing like it has been fired.

This is the first time I've tried any of these techniques and I wasn't completely satisfied with the results, but hey this is build is almost over so I'll have to be satisfied! I had a lot of fun on this build. Trying to new things I learned from Luis's build/tutorial videos and getting to use them on his group build. Thanks for checkin my tank out and I'll have the reveal tomorrow!
