tamiya 1:35 scale Sd.Kfz. 121 or Panzerkampfwagen II ausf. c

Post by MarkVerploeg »

:hi: and :welcome:
this will be my take on the Panzer II group build
it will be my first panzer II since i mostly build later types of german tanks
but a little change with a little tank can be good
now i have some pics on the kit and it's parts and will be starting soon (read this evening i think)
Image
the box art looks okay

Image
there is a figure kit aswell (don't think i'll use it)
Image

Image

Image

Image
uuhhhhh i you read this Coen Tamiya has photo etch i saw the box review on the leopard and you sad they don't do PE (and i agree with you this is the first time i have seen it in a timaya kit) great review btw
so i will keep y'all posted on this build and until next time
have a great day

yep its a funny kit i just started it (i'm a t step 1)
there is not that much weathering on it since the german were very well maintained and rusty vehicles were not allowed by high command in those days
so its just some dust and maybe some mud but not much more than that
and i will be making a small diorama with it because i want to depict a scene of the last day before the war and i have the "der skatspieler" figure kit from masterbox its a tankcrew playing a cardgame
but now i'm making wheels and sanding down the edges to make them look a little worn
and thats all for now

hi there
just a little update on a little tank
so i have going at it for a few hours now and i can say its a very nice kit so far
i'm not that high on tamiya kit since i'm mostly a dragon builder but this one is good
it will be an out of the box build (maybe some little add-ons) since i want to keep it simple
and this is what i got so far
Image

Image
i sanded down the edges of the road wheels to give them a used look
i don't know if you can see it on the first picture but the second is better

Image
all the wheels together i will be painting the wheels and tracks seperate from the vehicle itself
Image
the lower hull there is not much to it just cleaning of the parts and removing seemlines

Image

Image

Image
a walkaround the upper and lower hull pieces
i didn't do much to it just cleaning mostly and i left the driver visionport open to make it a little more intresting
i do want to mention this kit has real nice panel lines they are all very clear and of a good depth(nice for the washes)
so thats all folks for now atleast i'll be seeing ya

so i have been working on the panzer II and got it up the the stage i can go to paint and primer
and this is what i have got
Image
these are parts h11 and h12 the rear fender holders/fixtures they had a positioning pin that i removed so that i can remove the entire upper hull

Image
then i build up the antenna i've cut off the pin on the top and then drilled it out and placed a styrene replacemend

Image
overhere we have the toolboxes numberplate and muffler in place

Image
now these are all the parts that i will paint separete fromm the tank itself
the tracks are still on the sprue at the moment

so i got this little bugger almost built and will be priming it later this day and then paint
for my opinion this is a good kit it just falls together no fit issues or anything of that mather it's just that its a bit small for my taste since i normally build late war german armour and that is about twice this tanks size but its ok to build something different once in a while
so thats all for now hope you like it and i will be keeping up to date on the painting and weathering

That's a cool little kit Mark... I see that the commander has one of the early felt crash helmets. That's really cool, I may get this kit just for that figure. Tamiya figures usually aren't all that great, at least their early ones are.
That one isn't too bad. Neither are the infantry.
I'd be interested to see who made that PE fret, Tamiya sometimes will throw on an Arber PE set with some of their kits. I have a Tiger I here in my stash that I bought just for the PE set. haha.
It's rare for them to do it... it's handy when they do... they also make ya pay through the nose for it.

hi there
so i got back on my little tank and i can truely say it is the smallest that i've ever build
but it is a nice build aswell
so it was painting time and these tanks didn't have anything fancy with the paint just flat grey
for this grey color i used the tamiya paints (i use them almost everytime)
i mixed up the german grey with sky grey that was in my paint stash
it was done in a 7 to 3 ratio with the bigger part the german grey
i did this just to brighten up the pretty dark grey that i was supposed to use
and this is the result
Image
the tank and all the other part in the primer coat

Image

Image

so i think the outcome is ok but i would like to know you opinion on it
i use the vallejo primer but i use the big spray can not the little bottles that seems to piss off everybody
these big cans work good and fast (can be a bad thing) but i'm used to this way of working
if you want to use these cans i want to say that you should do so outside they do smell (and very bad i might say)
but now that winter is coming don't leave your project outside to long after spaying since it will crack up the layer of primer i found that out the hard way
so that's all i have for now
just waiting for the paint to dry so i can start on the decals and the clear coat
so untill next time and have a good day
bye

Nice work so far. I guess it all depends on what your are using primer for. Seems like primer is used for a lot of different reasons these days. I use spray can primer, too. Never had a problem. Just make sure you get a nice and even coat. Model On!

hi there
so i'm back with a new update on the panzerII
it is coming along nicely
at this point i have painted most parts of the tank and the tools that i painted separate from the tank it self
so this is what i've done
Image
i painted the tracks while they where in the sprue after cutting them out there are just a few points that need touching up so that won't be a problem
i also painted the wheels and backrollers (i think they are called in english)
Image
after i made the photo i saw that i spilled some paint on one of the wheels it is fixed now

Image
the various tools

Image
its armament

Image
the backside
as for the muffler i use mig pigments with tamiya thinner
in this photo i used the first color (russian earth) as the darkest color it is still wet in the pic the right side is dry so that is the final color
after this is all dry i do the same with mig old rust but i don't cover the entire surface and after that i repeat the process with mig standard rust
i leave it to dry in between each layer after this is done , i go back with the old rust to dull down the light rust color
but i will show the results next time
so have a nice day and happy modelling

hi there
so yet another update on my holy Toledo entry
i made a lot of progress yesterday i was able to finish up the exhaust and glued in all the loose pieces like tracks and the hatches
as i told you i did the muffler with pigment that are mixed with thinner so here are the steps one at a time
Image
this is the second color mig old rust it may not look very clear in the picture but you can see some color changes

Image
so this is the third color this is mig standard rust this is placed random on the muffler but it looks bright

so i bring back the second color and this is the final result
Image

after this was done i applied the decals there is only one on the hull and all the others go on the turret
so these photo's are the final steps before putting the panzerII in a coat of clear
Image

Image

Image

Image

so after a coat of clear it will be ready for weathering
that's all folks see ya next time

so i'm back with a new update on the panzer II
it had a clear coat since the last time and i got the weathering done aswell
so here it goes
Image
this is where i applied a coat of dust effects from AK
this was severely overdone as is the intension and after this dries (about 10 to 15 min.)
you start taking of most of it by going over it with using thinner and a q-tip or some paper towel
i did a wash first and wipped it almost completly off so that is hard to spot for this i used the panzer grey wash from AK but i don't like the almost green color

Imageafter the thinner from the last steps was dry i added some engine oil and fuel stains these where thinned down aswell but because they are so shiny and oily the will be visible after all the weathering is done

Image
here i applied a new coat of dust this time using a mix of Mig europe dust and dry mud
also you can see some spots of chipping

Image
different angle of the same step in the process this shows the dust better
it was my intension to make a pretty dusty vehicle ( i think it worked)

Image
here we have a shot on te tracks these are worked over with Mig dry mud
after this step i applied some pigment fixer and went back with some Mig dark mud for some color variation

so that is all i have on the panzer II i think it is done so far but i will be makeing a small diorama for it and these guys will be joining the panzer
Image
i'm still building these figures and i have no pictures of them so far
so that's all for now and í'll be seeing y'all
o yeah almost forgot : just for the fun of it i placed my 2 current group builds side by side
just to see the big difference in size
Image
yes it is a real midget tank this panzer II
cheers Mark

so i'm finally back with a update on my entry in the group build
this time i did the tank crew figures
it is a kit from masterbox and is called the skatspieler
i built everything as was instructed and after the where build i painted the figures with a coat of xf2 flat black
i painted the skin and face parts first
for this i used Vallejo paints and i painted this stage using the method from Calvin Tan (it is published in the book painting SS figures from Osprey)
it is a step by step process with dry brushing ,glazing and wash (if you don't know this method give me a shout and i will post the order and paints used it is a bit of a long list)
but these are the complete figures
Image

Image

Image

Image

i have the diorama base done aswell but i will show that one in the final reveal since it is still drying for now
so hope you like it and see you next time
