As you may or may not know KGV was pivotal to the destruction of Bismarck, she and Rodney being the 2 RN battleships that caught and engaged her.
This makes very interesting reading if you're minded

The kit

PE and up grade barrels for main armament, these are very recent additions

In the box

Back in the 70's PC and cost wasn't such an issue

the kit has two sets of instructions English and Japanese.
I'm still putting together the supplies to build the base, once I've got the I'll post them up
Oh well here goes

Is it a full hull or a waterline model? Either way - looks to be in interesting build.

In for the build, I've never built a floaty thing, although the missus keeps nagging me to build Titanic.

Not started yet, still trying to get a wooden deck, nobody in the UK has one

If fact the suppliers of ships building goodies PE, upgrades, paint, kits etc have very little at all, most if not all of their lines are out of stock

I guess not many build boats, as you can get just about everything for aircraft, AFV's, bikes/cars but boats all most nothing in 1/700 especially for Tamiya
I'm put off with ordering from the Far East where the stuff is very plentiful and the EU. The former as it takes an age at present, things get damaged and possible taxes, the latter most won't send or want sky-high postage to compensate for Brexit cost
I'll try a bit longer and I'll just make a start.

I think I'm going to have to give up on the idea of getting a wooden deck or anything else beyond what I've already got for any of the Tamiya kits I've got in my stash. Stocks of UK held aftermarket for ships is limited, or you've got to pay through the nose and wait for stuff to be imported

Items which are in abundance in parts of the EU or Far East are non existent in the UK, especially 1/700 Tamiya.

Yeah it's a bit of problem at the moment, but might turn out to be a blessing in disguise - as we've discussed previously sometimes the AM stuff actually ends up detracting from the enjoyment of a build so maybe just go with what you've got and see where it takes you?

Struggling for bench time at present, so just a small up date. A fair bit of work been done here even though it doesn't look a lot, a lot of cleaning up been done

Barrels fitted, although not glued in place as yet.
Next is to start applying the PE to the parts that require them before priming and painting

Nice, looking good! I have a new appreciation for boats in modelling. So much detail and tiny parts.

You could try Russia for your upgrades borderforce doesn't always impose levies on these parcels for some unknown reason.

Thanks for those links Digger, I have considered these. Having spoken to friends who are heavily into ship modelling, they tell me, it's absolutely crucial you ensure the AM is specificity for the kit your building. As there're very subtle differences between manufactures of the same subject and in 1/700 scale it can turn into a real pain trying to make things fit.
The build is continuing, I'm almost at a point of finishing all the PE. I haven't taken that many pictures of that, I just get in the zone and keep going, but I will post the finished pictures of their application.

Finally I can up date the build
I'm finding working with 1/700 PE very time consuming and I get sucked right in. With ship PE there's just so much of it and it's so small

I get right in the zone and forget to take pictures. After spending a good few hours each session, I find I need a day or so away from the bench.
I've finally finished all the PE, all still needs a little cleaning up around the CA points.
14in turrets. The PE directions call for an second railing running along the back of each turret. But the spacing between the uprights on the PE is wrong for this application, it only just works for what is fitted. The PE railing supplied is only for the deck, turret and other upper superstructure would have a different spacing of the uprights, the limits of 1/700 PE me thinks or cost

5.25in turrets, there's 8 turrets

I missed one when taking the picture

QF 2pdr Pom-poms, couple of casing chutes went to the carpet monster

40mm Bofors I made one of these up only to find it would barely fit in the space for the kit part it was to replace

It would have looked way too big

20mm Oerlikon
I decided not to use the PE versions, they're just so small and like a lot of PE works in theory not in practice. Zoom the picture (sorry no the best of pictures) you'll see on the left, the gun and the splinter shield, there's a tiny hole base and centre of the shield. You have to thread the barrel through the hole, that's easy enough, but getting the shield to sit square is real tasks

After bending or loosing parts, after a good hour or so I managed to get only one complete, right hand picture.

The kit one are not too bad although they don't have shields and the PE ones won't fit with out drilling the hole, which I can't be bothered to do.
Type 282 radar (Pom-poms)

Fire control radar either 282 or 285 not sure not an expert.

281, 274 and 277 from left to right, again I'm no expert happy to be corrected

Superstructure watertight doors

273 radar Mast lattice

Funnels

Cranes top is a exploded crane and below a partial assembled crane

Fully assembled

There's a couple of deck ladders remaining but these can't be fitted until the deck is painted

.
Primer and paint is next

With all the ships being build at the moment on the forum, it's starting to tempt me on trying one... when I have more space to display my finished models ! All that being said, great work ! The PE on those builds seems really time consuming, but it came out pretty good for you too. I love your turrets. Everything is awesome
Keep up the good work and stay safe !

An amazing work on this little scale, the pe gives another detail level on this basic kit.
