Hi. I'm wondering if I could get a recommendation for a spray booth. Right now I'm spraying Tamiya Acrylics, but I'm a little concerned with my safety and would eventually like to upgrade to lacquers at some point. I'm in Alberta, Canada and I don't mind paying a bit extra for quality (I'm super paranoid about lung safety, lol)
My big concern though is shipping. Shipping costs from weight is one thing but I'm worried about importing anything and getting hit with massive customs fees. I haven't had the best of luck with couriers on that. Anyone have any suggestions?
Spray Booth Recommendations?
Re: Spray Booth Recommendations?
I have a benchvent dv300sd , but for the freight consideration you might consider this USA brand.

Replacement bits are readily available and the filters are cheap. As a brand it should be on a par with the benchvent.
When comparing it's the amount of air moved per minute that counts. The sparmax shifting about 62cfm.....smallest pace peacemaker 148cfm and benchvent 208cfm.
The pacemaker is a bit wider than the benchvent so the filter isn't as likely to block as quickly so the air rates in actual use MAY not be such a issue.

I use this one
It's a bit on the cheaper side; but, has worked for me. I used it in my living room for a while and never had any issues with fumes. Admittedly I mainly spray Tamiya Acrylics and occasionally some Enamel. Now it's set up in my garage and functions very well. I seem to got through filters pretty quick, though that is probably a function of how much I'm modelling.

I had one like that, but the air flow isn't that strong and unless you make sure the air brush always points directly at it then it can bounce off the kit and back at you. Having said that mine was 3 cubic meter per minute ( most common ) and I know there is 4 cubic meter per minute units available like this amazon one.aur0ra145 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 12:11 am I use this one

A bit of searching and I found a site that seems to sell Benchvent stuff in North America (complete with the proper plug and everything), I'd still have to pay customs from the states it seems a much better option than from overseas... Though the filters are pretty expensive it looks like.
That makes me want to lean more towards the Pace ones, since they just have standard furnace filters. Would the lower CFM end up making a very big difference?

You can make up alternate filters with furnace ones..just keep the old one as a frameworkTyty wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 5:18 pm A bit of searching and I found a site that seems to sell Benchvent stuff in North America (complete with the proper plug and everything), I'd still have to pay customs from the states it seems a much better option than from overseas... it's the cfm that makes it all work. Can't suck the paint in without it.
The cost of the filters is huge and I for one will be getting some stuff to make my own. There are different types of material that can be used. Furnace filters are very cheap.

Re: Spray Booth Recommendations?
Thanks for the advice everyone, I've ended up ordering the BenchVent BV300S-D. I'm pretty excited to try it out when it gets here. I'll look into what their filters are made out of and see if I can replicate it.

Dude way to step up to the plate
You are gonna love it!!
Hammock filters for furnaces...go to Home Depot and buy a couple bags. You can cut them into appropriate size as the replacements
PM me if you need anything
