Adam's 1/20th Ebbro McLaren MP4-30 Early Season

Post by Adam1220 »

Who would thought I'd enter this buddy build?! All jokes aside. Here is the kit I'm building for this. It's the absolutely exquisite Ebbro McLaren MP4-30 Early Season. I built their 2016 McLaren around a year ago and fell in love.

Image

I have gone for the West paint set from Zero Paints. I always use them when given the chance as this stuff is fantastic. I know they're for the older livery but they are the same colours as this one so it'll work.

Image

Before this SiG moved to the forum I had already built and primed the main body section of the car. So far it's going well! Hopefully I'll get some time after wednesday to get the paint on and get to work with the rest

Further progress has been made towards the paint job of the McLaren! First job was to basecoat the car with Zero Paints Silver.

Image

Then I used Tamiya flexible tape to do the pain in the arse masking job. There are absolutely no pointers on the kit as to how this should be masked and as it will be pinstriped, you need to get it spot on. I've done my best.

Image

I then used Zero Paints McLaren Antracite to paint the rest of the body. I thought I had the paint down but like a complete mupped I painted it a bit too thick and ended up with a bit of an effect on the paintwork. Lesson learnt for next time, slow the hell down!

Image

I then removed the masking tape to leave the colour scheme looking pretty decent on the car.

Under some better light in my kitchen too.

Thanks for all the comments! I'll keep updating this :)

Sorry for going quiet! Haven't had time to update this. Now I have :). I have decalled up the McLaren. Decalling did not go well at all. The pinstripes are super fragile and fell apart from being breathed on but I bore through and here it is all decalled up.

Image

Then I built, painted and fitted the suspension parts, all painted in Alclad Gunmetal and glued on with BSI Super Gold + to prevent any marks on the paint (it worked too!) Starting to look like a real car.

Image

Now this was a real PITA. Tiny part, for it I've used a helping hand with a magnifying glass to get this right and my god was it useful. The carbon isn't kit standard, its FuelMe carbon to add a little bit of detail.

Image

Steering wheel was then glued in. Seat was painted and the undertray was painted too. Coming together now!

Image

Seat decalled up and glued into place along with the undertray, dry fitted the now painted front wing to make sure it matched up all nicely!

Image

Then the rear wing was fitted. Started to go a bit wrong and didn't have the time or mojo left in me to fix it. Not the kits fault but mine. Front wing now glued into place too and decalled up!

Image

Getting very closed to finished now! Just needs something but I can't quite put my finger on what...

Image

Wheels! Of course! All fitted now and complete. Kit went together fine but my stupidity and bad luck meant it didn't come out as nice as I hoped. Oh well, still happy enough with it.

Image

And here she is now on her base in the display cabinet sitting proud. Glad to have it done! Not sure when the next build will be.

Thanks for following this thread! Comments are all welcomed. Ill put something up in the completed section when i can get the full photo lights out.

Not sure what you do not like about your build. I know that those pinstripes on any build can be a real pain.

I think it is a beautiful car in a very nice display.

Well done!
