2019 Wheeled Vehicles GB - Rules and Guidelines

Post by Paul »

What is a Group Build (GB)?

A group build is where everyone on the forum (who wants to participate) gets together and picks a mutual subject to model. It will usually run over an agreed span of time (every 4 months for ISM). Everyone who's entered posts up their progress (in pictures) as they build the model with a final reveal and showcase at the end. There are usually a specific set of loose rules to say if it's got to be OOB (Out Of the Box) or you can add extras such as PE (Photo-Etch), after market resin parts or decals etc. There's never a rush and we will allow enough time to participate in the GB and do all your usual modelling at the same time.

There will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes kindly sponsored by Ultimate Modelling Products for this GB. I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank Ultimate for there continued support, it's greatly appreciated. Please go and check their website out by clicking the banner below, their customer service is second to none.

Because at ISM our ethos is that it doesn't matter what you build or how it turns out, as long as you enjoyed the journey, the way who gets the prizes is determined is going to be totally different to every other modelling website! It's not going to be just the prettiest or best built model that wins or places, the prizes will go to the best overall build thread. This means the more back story to your model you post, the more updates (with pictures) you post, the better the explanation of your techniques to achieve the end result (inc your youtube vids) you post, the better chance you will have of getting placed for a prize. Basically what this means is that the more you share your information, the better the benefit to the modelling community, which in turn benefits everyone of us. So, it doesn't matter if you're all thumbs, just started modelling last week, or can't achieve an exact replica of the subject you're building, we want to see that you've enjoyed the journey to the end result, no matter how it's turned out and most importantly, that you've had FUN getting there.....

Group builds are great fun and gets everyone working together towards the same goal and helps to get modellers out of their usual comfort zone and try something else whilst sharing their tips & techniques with the whole community. If you've never entered one before, don't be shy and have a go, we'd love to see your work.... :D

Would be fun to participate but I already have three ongoing builds. Also I am probably the worlds slowest builder not sure I could make it before the deadline. Either way I will be following everyone else's builds closely.

Ah I only have aircraft to build so unless I decide to buy an Airfix RAF Recovery Set then I'll have to miss out on this one.

Seems a good way to get involved in this forum, count me in.

Hopefully 6 months will be long enough for me to complete something alongside my current project

I've got a couple of car kits I've not started, just need to decide which one to do

I have to say, after reading the rules I think the way this will be judged is an excellent idea. A great way to encourage threads that will be of great future reference for people. If only the pictures were stored locally rather than links that will eventually die! Great ideas for judging though

All the photo's will be in their threads
The threads may get pushed down in the lists eventually but the pics will be there no matter what
The down side of placing them directly on the forum is that it requires a lot from the forums bandwidth
So with doing that they slow stuff down and even require the admins (Paul and Lee) to get a bigger subscripsion from the provider
Wich doesn't seem fair from my point of view as they offer it for free to us members

links that will eventually die!
I think hes referring to storage sites coming and going, but theres no way round that one, same as if you upload directly to a forum, if the forum dies - so do the pics.
Definitely not fair on Paul and Lee to have to provide extra space when there are so many free alternatives around. bfrd has gone to great lengths also, to provide easier integration for images on other providers.
The answer for anyone worried about their favourite build log or step by step disappearing is here ...... saves all pages including photos
Saving build threads as a pdf

I am really enjoying the builds already, some fine work and threads. Well, I finally figured it out regarding what I am going to add to this GB; I will be building the 1/16 Tamiya Kubelwagen.

More on this in my soon to be build thread....

I just might have to join this! Currently have two possibilities, a 1940 Ford Standard Coupe and a 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350H. We're in the process of moving so actual building will be delayed another week or two.
