#14 1/48 Monogram F-117A

Post by Fridgy »

Will use this as a place holder....

Will attempt a 2nd kit for this sig time permitting

This will be my first attempt at working on 2 models at the same time, and my first attempt at a black plane

Image

Scakemates has this as a new tool back in 1991.... oh crap what have i got myself into??

A quick look over the kit. So far looking good, engraved panel lines, minimal flash to clean up

Just hoping I havent bitten off more than i can chew trying to do 2 kits at the same time.......:

Good luck with juggling the two builds mate - I've confirmed in the last six months that I'm bloody hopeless at it and have to finish them one at a time!

ok....quiet night at home......

the instructions with this kit are quite woeful......

a quick search on scalemates and I found some better ones

Anyway, wheel bays painted and detaled

Cockpit tub painted

Bang seat

Image

Intrument panel
Image

I also painted and detailed the landing gear, but forgot to take photos.... :bash: .... ahh well you will have to wait for them

so all the the above need to gloss coat and the some panel liner to bring out the details.........

All together and primed in Ultimate grey

Unashamedly stole marks's pre shading ideas......

Image

Image

Image

She has vallejos model air medium blue grey 71114, as a pre shading coat, with tamiya x18 on the panel lines.
From there instead of using a deep black i have used mr hobby h77 tire black thinned with mlt 40:60 (paint to thinners)
She is currently in the box drying after spraying the bottom.
Am quite chuffed with how the topside has turned out, the medium grey blue has broken up the solid black of the fuselage quite well. Will get some pics tomorrow afternoon and hopefully they will show what i mean.

And a huge thanks to mark for posting his build so i had half an idea of how to do what i had in my mind to do

You could make a little arm from sprue
Heat carefully in a candle and form at least a shoulder and upper arm, then have the pilot hold it down tucked into the tub so can't be seen
You wouldn't even need to make a hand then

Trying to be a bit more helpful than my previous pestering

Not happy with myself on this one, lost parts made simple silly mistakes, including melting a section of wing while installing the landing hear doors

Don't beat yourself up too much mate - that's a great looking build.

As Scott says the detail on the landing gear is great, and the pre-shading work under the black surfaces really paid off.

Love it
