#44 Lancaster late for take off

Post by RossiM1 »

Sorry for the late start, but have been busy with a few other things but today was a free day so no excuses, chocks away.
This is the Revell 1/72 Lancaster MKI/III a late war machine I will be doing the MKIII one of the Lancs that performed one of the last operations odf the war.
The kit is showing it's age there is plenty of spare plastic , that is supplied in the form of flash, it's on pretty well every part, it's more like a resin kit.
I have had this kit for quiet a while just sitting in the stash, and I had purchased the Eduard self adhesive cockpit detail set, and the seat harness's, some Master gun barrels, and a set of resin wheels.
With the flash sorted made a start by prepping the fuselage and the cockpit ready to receive the etch sets, primed with Ultimate black primer, then airbrushed with Tamiya XF69 NATO Black to give a greyish black appearance, etch parts added then details painted as per call outs in RAF interior Green, & flat Brown.
fairly productive day and hopefully can crack on with a bit more tomorrow.

Thank you for the comments guys, the build rumbles on primered and painted the engines and the nacelles and the upper turret, used Tamiya cockpit green for these parts, got the wings assembled, and the rear stabilisers, and got the fuselage buttoned up, progress is quiet quick at this stage, next up will be getting the nacelles mounted to the wings, and start on the undercarriage.Image

Lol Scott this is just one of those kits that despite a lot of the criticism that Revell get builds really well, only a slight swipe of filler along the wing roots required everything else has gone together beautifully. Still a way to go and plenty of time to screw it up but so far so good

Back to the Lancaster, progress fairly swift as the assembly process is pretty straight forward, as you can see in the photos I have removed the kits machine gun barrels and drilled out with a .5mm drill ready to install the brass barrels from Master, they really do make a big difference, the fuselage is buttoned up and the seams taken care of the canopy and the gun turret glazing has been added and masked using Vallejo masking fluid then I have primed with Ultimate Black primer. Next step will be to spray with Tamiya XF69 Nato Black then a very thinned Tamiya XF1 Matt Black to try and get some tonal variation on the Black. Image

Thanks guys enjoying this so far pretty straight forward build no dramas have acquired some of the Airfix RAF vehicle sets so maybe an attempt at a diorama will be in order.

Loving seeing the Lanc come to life.

I’m losing track of how many of them are in the Sig. We may not have a whole squadron but we’re close to having a flight of the beauties.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.
