given it's age I was impressed with the fit so far and details. I was expecting it to be a little coarse and muted.

Read all the Frederick E Smith 633 Squadron books, fantastic reads.

Cant beat a Mossie Digger - great choice.

Thanks Stokesy

Not wanting to replicate all the Mossie specs I thought I would just take this from a book I read.

I'v got a question for all you wingnuts :D .... The wing tips is there a panel line there or is it supposed to be puttied up like I did here. Cause I have no idea !
Image

Looking good, those Tamiya 1/48 Mossies are cracking little kits.

Thought I'd post this comment from a certain Hermann Goering re the Mossie. One of the few things the appalling man said that was anywhere near true!

"It makes me furious when I see the Mosquito. I turn green and yellow with envy. The British, who can afford aluminium better than we can, knock together a beautiful wooden aircraft that every piano factory over there is building, and they give it a speed which they have now increased yet again. What do you make of that? There is nothing the British do not have. They have the geniuses and we have the nincompoops. After the war is over I'm going to buy a British radio set - then at least I'll own something that has always worked."

:cheers2:

My air compressor died last night ...developed a hole in the air tank. Note to my self...drain the damn air tank occasionally. Although the tank is pretty thin so probably wouldn't have made much of a difference. So doing any painting this weekend is looking dicey and I need to before I do anything else. Maybe I can make a temporary repair, but I am reluctant to try inserting a screw or similar as it may become a projectile. It will be a week before I can get to the shops to get a replacement....damn.

Love the mossie and you're doing it proud! :cheers2:

Sorry to hear about your compressor, what a pain! :wall: it should be alright to use, it's just the tank won't fill, so you'll have to watch for it overheating. Hope you get it sorted.

I might still stick a screw in it and close the door fast.

The Mossie certainly was a remarkable aircraft, able to loop the loop with only one engine and bring the crews home with half a wing.

Image

and repairing them was as easy as grafting and gluing another wing tip back on.

Not much of a update, my excuse...it's late and the missus wanted quality time. I'm hoping it's going to rain tomorrow and I can do what I want.

I sanded down the wheels and dabbed a bit of sprue goo around the crews arm as it didn't match well. Bit pathetic really took me longer to post this

Image

I posted this as I can thoroughly recommend these diamond sharpening tools. If you want a truly flat surface or a flat edge then these are great. This is a 400 grit. good for fine work, but really need a 300 as well.

Slow progress at mediocre modeling :D

I'v done some brush painting here and the wheels are still wet. I used different coloration of aluminum to get some contrast, but it is minimal and doesn't show well.

Image

I deviated from the instructions to build the nose and then slide the interior into it.....ATM I'm thinking it may have been a big mistake however I shall push along.

Image

As you have see the kit supplied instrument decals are very basic and as thick as a 4x2. I used copious amounts of Walthers Solverset REPUTED to be very strong acting and it laughed at it. The decal is there and I'm hoping it will pass a cursory examination through 1970's clear plastic.

Image

The other half of the cockpit with still the pilots to do. This is taking a lot of time. Shall bash on though...gave my word that I would finish this !

Image

Until next time.. :thumb2:

Ps... thanks Tom and Quax..... managed to patch the compressor ( only had a pin hole through the tank ...very strange ).

Thanks guys....your a good bunch

I started to close her up last night the nose went together with a little finagling.

Image
Image
I'm reasonably happy with that.

I used a little sprue glue along the fuselage to get a good gap fill with the minimum of fuss and twenty minute later had it all trimmed back with a perfect join. :D

Image

Then :bash:
Image

I always had a nagging feeling something wasn't right
I had to bust it all open relocate the cockpit rear section and of course it wouldn't mate together as it once did. I did have thoughts for about 5 sec of tossing it . However I squeezed it back together bit by bit and now I have a larger gap to fill and it looks horrible.

Image
Image

AND it's going to take some time ! :wall: :wall:

Aww man!

Stick with it mate - you'll sort this out.

Just out of interest how was the cockpit misaligned? I'm just interested as I've got the same kit in the stash so want to try and avoid anything similar when I get to it.

Follow the instructions and you won't have any issues. I built the cockpit in 2 halves and then glued the rear piece into one fuselage piece, but to far forward ( I didn't follow the instructions or understand properly :bash: ) and then closed it up nicely . BUT the wing supports were hanging out in space instead of passing through the fuselage. Really stupid !
If I were to say anything and I don't know for sure , but the rear bulk head maybe a little large and need a small trim.

Lets get the bad news out of the way first. I mistakenly thought I was removing pour lugs which has led me to try to make a poor copy.

Still a little triming to do and hopefully at 30 feet you won't notice.

Some bad brush painting..thought it was better until I photographed it. I need lessons from Pete.

Fairly happy with the wheel assembly which is only dry fitted atm. I have sanded the flats on the wheels so it won't look like its floating.

I have also thinned around the air intakes on the engines

and cut through the plastic at the end of the flaps. Not sure whether that was a good idea or not. Might look a a bit off and not in keeping with the rest of he aircraft. I did try to use the thinnest blade I had a photo etched one which works really well considering it's size.
