1/35 Academy Magach 6B Gal Batash

Post by Hackovsky »

Soooooo :-) The GB seems to be very interesting and there was a sale on this kit in the local hobby store, so I`ll give it a try.

Actual kit is reboxed M60 with new sprues for the Magach 6B. Magach 6B Gal was fitted with 4th generation passive armor and 908 hp engine. The turret has angled sides and angled mantlet. This variant is sometimes unofficially referred to as Magach 7D or Magach 8. A limited number of vehicles were converted from the Magach 6B Gal variant.

There were 1400 pcs of M60s sold to Israel by West Germany and majority of them undertake the upgrading process to survive better on the battlefield.

Magach tanks were present at the operational units till the 2006 and from then all of them were replaced by Merkava tanks.

In July 2015 Israel confirmed, that part of the tanks were rebuild into new missile carrier Pereh.

And onto a build. I bought a set of Tamiya paints to create the color and the mix will be as follow XF-20 Medium Grey, XF-49 Khaki and XF-24 Dark Grey in a 10/5/2 ratio. Hope this will work out :-)

The kit is going together with no issue. Sometimes the fitting is not like Tamyia or Eduard, but still way more better then Alan and old Zvezda kits :-)

And last update now. I found huge fitting issue. The turret seems to have a problem in the back. The box on the upper hull is colliding with the lower back part of the turret. For correction aprox. 1.5mm plastic sheet needs to be added to the turret ring, so the turret will be sitting normally. Or I can position the turret with the gun to the side and problem will be solved.

Sanding won`t solve the problem as too much of the material needs to be taken.

My lady left for a longer weekend, so I had plenty of time to spend with the kit. Only those bloody dogs wanted the attention :)

Although the gun barrel is split in half, the Tamiya Extra Thin quick helped a lot, so no need to use a putty.I will check the fit after the surfacer.

Additional armour glued together. No problem there at all.

And here is the point, why I sold all of mine 1/35 stash and switched for 1/48 planes. The wheels. Thank God it is not Panzer IV :D This part is soooo boring.

The turret is almost completed. I will install the FMGs and the heavy MG after the painting.

Mounting base or the additional armour is also in place. Here is also the Extra thin cement quick setting helped a lot. The tracks should be melted together, but I was affraid of it, so I went the way of gluing them together with the glue for the shoes (toluen based) and later secured with CA glue.

I think that next step will be painting everything from the building is already finished.
