A mock up of what's done so far:

The cargo cover is in it's final colour already simply because I got the urge to spray some paint, without it:

The plan was/is to get the frame and running gear together so that I would have the final height of the frame, which would allow me to figure out the way to attach the plow. As the plow isn't meant for this kit/vehicle and there are some differences that will have to be dealt with, for example, the kit/vehicle the plow is meant for is has the front bumper fully exposed, where one this one the hood (bonnet) and grill extend out right over the front bumper and guess where the plow attaches....
Anyway, the plan was to put together the least amount possible (to avoid breakage) and get the mounting plate onto the bumper and then keep the rest of the plow apart until much later (again, breakage). In order to do that the hood and engine bay sides have to go on, but in order to place them the cab has to go on first (the cab has well defined mounting points, but none of the parts in front of it do, they mount of off the cab, so more breakable parts have to go on....

I'm not closing up the cab until the interior paint is done and the glass has gone in, which will be much later:

And not only did the back of the plow get a bit of damage in transport (the the video), but one of the four rods that connect between the plow and the plow mounting plate:

So I'll have to fix that soon.

Now, while all the parts are numbered, the sprues aren't lettered (might be the Italeri heritage showing?) so to save looking and the sprue map every 2 minutes and loosing my sanity:

Getting places:

That dome it the last photo (to the left and below the Mercedes logo on the grill) is supposed to be over (behind) the front bumper on the 3000, but that has a bumper that sits well in front of the grill, so I've had to break out the white styrene. The post that the control rod fits to was too short for this (seems the 3000 also has a shorter hood), so that had to be replaced too.

I still have to get the truck side hinges to match up and when that can be done, the main rods will be glued to the plow (so everything will be just like the last two photos) so I can finish off the details on the model and get the painting done with less chance of break the plow off. The plow will be attached properly as the very last step.

Painting is finally complete. Decals (all 5....) are on and the matte varnish is dry. The tools were given a coat klear, to make getting the wash off a bit easier:

I've found the Ultimate white wash is a little too bright, so a little of the concrete wash was added (about 5%) just to take the white down a shade of two:

So the excess winter wash has been removed, the driver added and the cab closed up.

Aqua-gloss has been sprayed on and is drying now.

Once that dries, I can start with the weathering.

So the model itself is pretty much done, except:
-the windshield (or windscreen depending on your version of English) wipers won't go on till later, but the area they sweep is masked off to keep glue, snow, etc out of the "clear" area.
-the net isn't on. The canvas roof will get more snow between the ribs once it's on the diorama, the net will go on after late to simulate snow falling through the net.
-the road wheels don't have much weathering, again, once it's on the diorama it will get done to match the snow on the road.

The blade has been given some wear:

The original plan was for fuel drums and crates in the cargo area, but I glue the canvas top on before I got them in

. So 3 layers of foam board were glued just inside the rear and then 3 crates from Value Gear were slipped inside.

So now it's on to the diorama...

I just noticed I didn't include the Woodland Scenics Scenic Paste in the photos....

Anyway, the instructions call for thin layers of the paste (but don't say what "thin" is) that will dry in 1 hour. I spots I've put it on 1/2" (12mm) thick and it seems to take 24 hours to dry at that thickness.

So while I wait for the diorama to dry, I went ahead and snowed up the halftrack with the Scenic Paste, the Woodland Scenics Snow and some white pigments I had. The pigments went on the road wheels and glass, the Paste was for the hard packed, built on stuff that clings around wheel wells and bumpers, and the Scenic Snow went all over in different amount, but mainly on the canvas roof.

Since the width indicators normally have white balls on the top, which would be useless in a snow storm, the driver has tied red rags over them, the some snow has stuck to the front of the rags as the halftrack has driven along:

The Woodland Scenics snow is dead easy to work with, spray thinned glue on the area, sprinkle on the snow, spray on more glue. Repeat if wanted to build an area up.
