Nocturna Vampire

Post by Tomcat64 »

Browsing through Mark's post on Friday reminded me that I have had this 54mm lady sitting around part-done for the best part of a year now...

Image

So it inspired me to do a little more work over the weekend and try to bring something together with these bits

Image

The tomb is from the original kit with the vampire, the oval base from GW and the other bits are from JG miniatures.

Hopefully now that she's been resurrected I'll get on and add to her alongside the main builds on the desk.

I want to do some more work on the skin - working with the grey tones has been a challenge and have an idea of how I want the base and overall look to come together. The trees will stay pretty much as bought, but the wall and railing will get some attention.

Painting so far has all been brushed with Vajello (Model color and Model air) and Scalecolor.

Will try to remember to take photos as things develop.
Cheers, Neil

Nocturna Vampire - Base Progress

Post by Tomcat64 »

Made some progress on the base today

Laid out the parts to get some idea of how it will look:

And marked the rough position of the elements on the base:

Decided to create some rubble ends for the wall using small aquarium gravel:
Image

Mixed with PVA - I've kept the mix fairly wet and then allowed it to dry a little to get it tacky but workable:
Image

Glued the wall section to the base and built up the gloopy mix at both ends prior to adding some finer grains. These will mostly be hidden by the trees when viewed from the front but hopefully it'll finish things off from the side.
Image

And then used Vallejo dark earth textured paint applied liberally with a stippling brush to start bringing the elements together. I'll also use some of this on the rubble ends once they've set to add some finer grain to the detail

Having just looked at the layout again I may bring the left hand tree forward a little so might need to revisit that side of the base.
Cheers, Neil

Thanks guys :)

I hadn't made the Halloween connection!

Maybe we could think about a Halloween SIG next year... Phantoms, Vampires, Ghostriders...

Appropriately enough... time for a resurrection!

I don't know why, but I had a sudden flash of clarity this week about what I wanted to do with this so I dusted off the cobwebs and here we go...

First up a liberal smothering of Vallejo textured dark earth across the ground and up the ends of the walls
Image

Then a general coat of Black Primer from Unmentionable Magic Potions (I think that's what it stands for anyway)
Image

First steps in actual painting; the wall is picked out in Game Colour extra opaque heavy charcoal to act as a base, and the tomb is Vallejo gloss black
Image

Some random green patterns were added to the black to act as a marbling effect (that's the theory anyway)
Image

I then cracked on a bit... the wall was given a stippled mix of four greys all from Scalecolor: Brown Grey, Graphene Grey, Rainy Grey & Petroleum Grey. These were then liberally dosed with mixed clay washes of Ultimate Algae, Dark Dirt and Grime. The ground was picked out in Game Colour extra opaque heavy brown with dark dirt clay wash added to give some depth.
Image

Oh and the tomb was given a couple of black washes to tone down and blend the green "marbling" and then given a gloss coat with Aqua Gloss
Image

The railings were done in stippled mixes of Lifecolor rust shades and weathered with similar washes to the wall; then the rose on the ground was picked out with Scalecolor greens & reds
Image

Now to cover up all that work... the winter bushes were added and then Tamiya snow was stippled around and over the whole thing
Image

And here's the finished result with her ladyship in residence!

Hope you like it - and thanks for checking in on this ancient thread! :cheers2:
