I'm pretty new to weathering. I know usualy you have to protect your paint work with a clear coat. But I was told I didn't have to with the vallejo ones because they are acrylic base. And So I went ! Applied the wash. Let it dry.when came time to remove the excess my paint work tear off... Did someone had the same problem with them ? Or was I misinformed and should have protected it with a clear kote

Was your base acrylic also? I think you can use the Vallejo on enamel base without blocking.

I like Vallejo washes less and less. I have never gotten them to wick into a panel line. And as you've experienced, good luck getting excess off the kit.

With Vallejo Acrilic washes are designed to be used in small areas at a time and with water as you have a limited amount of time before they dry.

Here is a guide on how to use them

Vallejo washes are terrible! When they dry they leave a pastel like matte effect.

I use Games Workshop washes when using a brush and they are the best by far.

Yep I hate Vallejo washes. The capillary action is rubbish, yes on small areas at a time, and instead of complementing and/or slightly adjusting the base colour it totally changes it.
I bought 4 or 5 of them (should've bought one to test) used one on a Stug and it changed the colour and really, I mean really, darkened the model.

If I'd only bought one I'd have slung it, but cos I bought a few I'm hanging on waiting to see if I can find a use for them.

I mainly use oils now but keep hearing good things about GW.

I am starting to use oils for washes as well which are fantastic.

Grab a GW wash and give it a go, I highly recommend it!

I have bought a couple or 3, Seraphim Sepia, Reikland Flesh and Nuln oil.

Being acrylic washes do you use a clear coat for protection of the paint underneath?

You can but once I finish my painting I slap on a wash then clear coat everything.
