Young Miniatures 1/10 Bust 'Polish winged Hussar'

Post by rodrant »

Hi Ladies and gentlemans ,

I start a Thread on how I build and paint a bust , I give it a go in between some other builds , and doing a moddeling alternative that it is much of my preference ! This is great for doing in between builds as I think it is quite relaxing :-)

So this is a Resin Bust in 1/10 scale of a magnific collection from Young Miniatures , already painted two busts before , and really enjoy all the detail and easy of build that this figures bring !

The box and the base that I will use , the figure doesn't have a base , so you should by one :-)

Overview of the figure :

Image

nice detail on the head/face

Image

Feathers ..lot of them ...

Image

A new chalenge to me ..to paint the leopard skin :-)

Image

Cleaning the figure ...Resin be carefull to use a mask and ventilation

Image

Arghhh so many feathers :-)

they go for this ornament that this hussars have in their back ..should be an impressive view in battle !

Image

starting on placing the feathers :

Image

Done , some damaged as they re very fragile , but CA glue and a lot of patience did the job !

Image

I orimed the torso and helmet in black ...as most will be painted in metal tones (armour ) , I prefer to prime the head and the ornaments using White Primer !

Image

Image

The head I start to paint using the Andrea Colors Flesh paint set , easy to use and you do not have to do many mixtures for the lights and shadows

Image

Two coats of Flesh Base color

Image

Painting the face , well after the base paint it is painted doing first two different highlights , and this you must do a lot of brush strokes and try to give the most realistic tones on the face , usually I use a light directly above the face , and try to paint the highlights where the light will focus more , as for the shadows were should be shadow of course , for the eyes I use Flat white , and after dried I paint hte upper eyelid with brown ( I use the ACS-013 from Andrea Brown Paint Set ) and a mixture of the previous with XNAC-31 Crimson Red , for the Iris I used a mix of XNAC-11 Navy blue and XNAC-26 Basic Blue (Andrea colors references ) . Then the pupil is lightenwith a mixture of the previous with some XNAC-15 Turquoise .Pupil with XNAC-02 Flat Black , and the light dots in between the Iris and the pupil is with a little dot of XNAC-01 White . on the oposite and in the Iris I paint a reflection using Turquoise and XNAC-43 Light Flesh . All this was in a book/MAgazine that I bought from Andrea Publications that is a step by step on painting figures by Julio Cabos ! If you want to give it a go on figure painting and can't go to a painting course or see the masters painting live, this could be a good initiation !

Image

The beard is for now with a base of Brown paint , but maybe I will go just for some highlights with some lighter color as I really like how it is right now !

Image

Paint the Armour with the base paint from Andrea Colors Slver paint Set

Image

Two brush coats to really give it a good cover !

Image

Hope you liked so far !
