I'm having a crack at replicating this photograph of a Jadgtiger on a Dragon Wagon in 1/72:
There are no colour references I can find for this photo, but Seb tracked down the location of the photograph...
Which lead me to some modern pictures taken in the same area:
Which is a pretty good match for the background building in the original photograph.
The Jagdtiger looks pretty run in, in the photograph so I'll be going for heavy weathering from plenty of use but no battle damage that I can see.
The Dragon Wagon looks pretty standard apart from some reinforcing beams under the tracks.
Let's kick off with the Jagdtiger. I went with the Dragon Sd Kfz 186 Jagdtiger Porsche Version as the base kit, built straight out of the box with no modifications. It comes with a fret of PE grills that were simple to install...
I also coughed up a couple of extra quid on a metal barrel:
Construction was quick, it's a very simple kit with low parts count. If I make it again however, I'll leave the side skirts off before attaching the tracks.
Poundland primer and we're ready put some paint on.
Preshade:
Dunklegelb base coat:
Dunklevert stripes:
Dunglbrun stripes:
Most of the markings on the photo have been lost, but there's a faint trace. I added the decals and then ripped most of them off:
Next a gloss coat and a burnt sienna & black oil wash. I want this to look dirty so I'm pretty heavy handed:
I'd previously built a Dragon Wagon, but I'll be building another for this dio. Time to see what my Jag looks like on the back.
Once the oil wash was dry, i cleaned off a lot trying to leave streaking down the side in the obvious places.
Next I matt coated and heavily chipped using a sponge
I used a graphite pencil 2B to catch the edges and add scratches:
Now I painted up the exhausts, shamelessly stealing the look from Paul's Jagdtiger:
Lastly I dusted using pigment powders. There's a few bits of stowage to add but it's done.
Next up the Dragon Wagon...
