RFI - 1/35 Trumpeter Russian BTR-80A APC

Post by plasmahal »

I'm doing my first armour build with the 1/35 Trumpeter Russian BTR-80A APC.

Background:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BTR-80 (Russian: бронетранспортер, BTR stands for bronyetransportyer, literally meaning "armoured transporter") is an 8x8 wheeled amphibious armoured personnel carrier (APC) designed in the USSR. Adopted in 1986 and replaced the previous versions, BTR-60 and BTR-70 in the Soviet Army. It was first deployed during Soviet War in Afghanistan .

BTR-80A (GAZ-59034) - IFV with 30 mm gun 2A72 and 300 rounds as primary weapon. The turret is called BPPU and is equipped with sights 1PZ-9 (day) and TPN-3 or TPN-3-42 "Kristall" (night). In production and service since 1994.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was a NATO-led security mission in Afghanistan, established by the United Nations Security Council in December 2001 by Resolution 1386 as envisaged by the Bonn Agreement.[3][4] Its main purpose was to train the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and assist Afghanistan in rebuilding key government institutions, but is also engaged in the 2001–present war with insurgent groups.

Hungary - The Hungarian infantry unit was situated in Kabul, however, on 1 October 2006, Hungary requisitioned its forces and took over responsibility from the Dutch for the Provincial Reconstruction Team in the town of Pul‑e Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province. Since 1 October 2008, one of the tasks of the Hungarians is to provide security at Kabul International Airport. In 2008 Hungarian special forces deployed to South Afghanistan to special reconnaissance and patrol operations. In 2010 Budapest adds 200 soldiers to the 340 troops it already has in Afghanistan working in reconstruction and training. Six Hungarian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.

Kit manufacturer: Trumpeter (01595).
Scale: 1/35
Type: BTR-80A
Extras used: OOB
Paints and colours used: Primer = MIG Ammo Grey, Mr Hobby Aqueous H303, Tamiya X-1, XF-84, Mr Metal Colour Iron, X-9, Model Air Middle Stone (71.031), Model Colour Iraqi Sand (70.819), Pledge (Klear) used for gloss coats and W&N acrylic satin varnish for final sealing coat.
