Ultimate dark dirt

Post by bigglesworth »

Hi all, iv a quick question about Ultimate weathering solution....can it be applied directly to acrylics without putting down a gloss coat? basically im doing a interior of a lysander and am thinking on using this or is it just as easy/effective to use thinned paint?

Thank you in advance! :scratch::

opinions may differ ? But I would be protecting my work..... one Acrylic applied onto another Acrylic .... usually not good!

better be safe than sorry !

Another thing to consider is the gloss coat makes it easier to remove the bits you dont want. If it is a matt surface it gets into the texture and is harder to remove.

I have done it without a gloss coat .....what it does when used that way is make the wash really stand out....it will soak into the paint underneath and darken it a bit so beware of that....once it drys u still can wipe it off although u can't take it all off like u would if it was sitting on top of a gloss coat....if I want a subtle wash effect then I put it on over a gloss coat....also if ur gonna use it without the gloss coat make sure u let the base coat dry thoroughly say at least a day...hope this helps
On the bench........uummmmm i dont have a bench......not yet anyway

If you apply our wash to a matt coat you doubt be able to remove it, if you can apply it where you want it then thats great

Yes, you can spray using an airbrush. We'd recommend a needle size of 0.3 or above :th:

However, you can get a really cool effect when you apply it over a matte surface. Especially if there's some oil paint used in the details on top of the matte coat.
I know that it's not the accepted practice to add a clay based wash to a flat/matte surface, but it's something that I've been experimenting with. It does have it's uses.
Those Ultimate washes are really good for making things look weathered.

I've also noticed that if the paint that you've used has a shine to it like a lot of Mig's AMMO does, a satin finish, the effect works even better.
