Hello everyone ! Well it's been quite a long time since I posted something...almost a month ! Had trouble with my project and lost a bit a bit of my mojo... But the last few days I went back to it.... had a lot of fit issues with the clear parts. A few of them had a kind of sink hole I couldn't repair. Forgot to take a picture of the problem. 2 pieces had the problem.
So for the rest the plane is ready for primer :

I used Ultimate Black Primer. I'm gone let it rest for a day or two. A left a few spots without the black primer because I'm going ti use the white one for the areas yellow is required.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

I also painted all the bombs (no pictures of that) with RAL 7021... Revell called for an olive green but I saw pictures that weren't that at all... so I read on the internet and found its was the RAL color. I'm gone put pictures when they are weathered.

So that's a quick and short post. Not much to say and show but since it had been a long time... and I have catching up to do on other's people work.
Francis

Everything looks so cool primed in black :thumb2:
Coming along very nicely, I am looking forward to see those external PE details POP when she gets a paint layer and weathered

I missed the other post about your pup Cleo, been a bit worried about her so very happy she is ok
My Coco just had a clean bill of health at the vet Saturday
well other than some weight gain as she gets lots of treats from her ever-spoiling dad :shifty:

Thanks for asking ! Suprisingly she's doing great ! The mass as grown a bit but she doesn't have any symptom or fatigue showing. She just have trouble a bit when taking a walk or going down the stairs. Happy that yours had a good heart report ! And for the PE... it tested my patience a lot and was a bit of the reason of my lost of mojo

Having more time and getting back the envy of continuing the project after priming everything here is another post.

When the primer was finished I realized a lot of mistake assembling everything... I could see the beginner in me ! A lot of it was from gluing the PE parts. Well ! Let's move on to the painting process finally ! I decided 2 things before I started ! First I would use my new AK paint set for the first that I got with a kit bundle. And I decided to use a new technique for me !

ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

I first did the white wings tips and the yellow areas.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

My first attempt with AK's paint wasn't a success ! I had problems applying it. I tought it was really thin.. Really didn't like it ! But I think the color is closer to reality than the Vallejo I have and even with the problems I had I think the finish is better...what I mean is that with Vallejo it doesn't take much to scratch the paint... and the surface is smoother

Then I moved on to the underside to try on my new technique ! I saw it on Scale-o-thon youtube channel. I love is channel and love is work ! It consist of doing a kind of mottling with really thin paints and then spraying the called color really thin again to make a kind of transparency... I'm sure a lot of you already knew this ! So I started with the underside... spraying tamiya white at a ration around 85% thinner and 15% paint.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
It took me a while to get the hang of it... but It wasn't so bad.

Afterwards I went on with the RLM65 at the same ratio. I don't know if the picture shows it but it did a real tonal variation in the color. I like it a lot.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
Again with the AK color, the same impressions and results as mentioned before

To the top know again with the same technique. I started this time by painting the called color, in this case RLM 71. But this time Vallejo. (rougher surface than AK and all their paints are too dark for my taste..I should a white for scale effect)
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
(you can see that I had forgotten to take the picture. I had started the mottling with tamiya white)
And with the mottling complete :
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

As always feel free to comment, suggestions, or critics. Next post in not so long with the completion the RLM71 and hope the RLM70 also.

I can recommend a proper PE cutter as being very useful. You can cut those small bits off a tree shaving very close to the part and needing minimal cleanup sometimes non. That depends on you.
I use a Xuron 9180et
https://www.hobbytools.com.au/xuron-918 ... n-scissor/

and have found it to be very good and a non regrettable purchase.

Hi everyone ! I'm starting to think I won't have time to finish before the deadline that is coming very fast  ... I was sick for a week, had a tiring business trip and I'm going in vacation the last week of august. So I'll try to push fast !

So last time I posted something I just had finished painting very diluted with paint over RLm71 in the goal of achieving a tonal variation. I,M not sure if I like it because I tought the white lines were may be a bit to thick... So afterwards I had to do the masking. Again it was a first for me to have masking of this type to do. I took me almost 3 hours to do it. Slow worker !! lol
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

After that it was time again to paint RLM71 over it but this time very diluted. I'm not a pro in colors but it seems to me that Vallejo's RLM 71 is way off of the real color. Really to dark. But I was happy with the finish product.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

Then was time to mask again for the next color, RLM70. Again I'll be using Vallejo's. But as you'll see in the next picture paint peeled of when I removed the masking tapes !! :jd: I decided to repair everything after having finish the RLM70
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

Then I was ready to apply RLM70 and at the same time paint where the paint it had lift off on the PE parts.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

Next stage will be again to apply white for tonal variation. Hope I'll be able to finish in time. I still have a lot to do. I'm not fast because I'M beginner and I found the kit a bit hard for me. At least, the bombs and wheels are painted. Just have to weather them.

And just for Scott, Cléo is doing pretty well ! I'm even surprise on how well ! And even if the mass is growing (has doubled the size Since I discovered it in may). She says I to Coco !

Just a short post before leaving for the US to show what I did last night. I applied the white in goal of achieving tonal variation again, over RLM70. Then reapplied RLM 70. So here's the final result after removing the mask and a few touch ups.

ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

I like the finish result ! And proud of myself being a first on almost everything I did up to now. I think when weathered a bit it will mix everything pretty well togheter. This weekend, I'll try to finish the yellow paint (still masked) and put on the gloss coat.

I was wondering if I do the chipping before or after the gloss coat ?...

Have a great weekend everyone

Another quick post to show what I've done yesterday. Finished the yellow markings. Weathered the bombs. Clear coated the plane, bombs and spinners. So here's a picture of the plane at this stage...sorry for the poor quality. Pictures of the bombs and spinners in the next post, and also I hope the planes with decals.

Ok since my last post I was able only to weathered the bombs and put all the decals on. That took me much more time that I tought it would ! So because of that, and because I have a last minute business trip next week I don't think I'm going to be able to finish in time ! :( But I'll try my best !

SO here's the result of what I've done. Not sure about the bombs. First time (again!) I tried using a chipping medium.

ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

So I'll let dry for at least 24 hours the clear coats on top of the decals. Then I'm going to sand everything with 2000, 3000 and then 6000 sand paper to make it smoother. And then the weathering will start !!
I'm thinking of bringing it with me on my business trip to continue in my hotel room after work : but I have 7h30 drive to go on

Hi all ! So got back from my business trip this Saturday. I have a lot to do because I'm leaving on vacation Tuesday morning. But I try to push todays as much as I could in the hope of finishing before leaving. Last time I just had finished the decals. I sanded down the gloss coat to get a smoother finish. After this was time for the wash. But instead of doing a wash all over the plane I'm trying a new product for me. AK's Paneliner.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

So it went on all panel lines. Sorry but no pictures of that completed part because they weren't good.
After that I used oil paints to make discoloration and scratches... Having trouble with my English here to explain it good. Here's an exemple. Poor picture quality again. You can see it a bit on the bottom wing.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

I'm starting to realize that an iPhone takes awful pictures ! I continued with oils to add tonal variation to the yellow by putting on small dots and blending everything togheter.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

And did the same thing with the propellers but this time to simulate dirt and dust.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

I used the same technique on the bombs to finalize the weathering of those parts.

ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

I like the final result. Wasn't sure at the beginning. Because I worked wih oil only on one project before. But liked it a lot and I'm still experimenting

Added a few scratches to the plane itself also. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture again
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

No pictures of the next stage but I painted the wheels. And then a gross thing happened ! I took my AK's landing gear dust product to apply on the side of the wheels. It had set down quite a bit. Shook it a lot. Opened it. And the top seems to had dry down. Took a tooth pick to remove it but here what It was !!:

ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

Gross !!! And it look like some kind of larva...anyone knows !? I cut it and it's definitely something else then dry paint .. On a lighter note I hope to have enough to finish... not much left : wheels (already started), landing gear and damn PE that goes with it, gluing a few pieces on the side and finally the Matt coat.

Well ! This will be my final post before the end date of the SIG  Unfortunately I won't have time to finish. While writing this post it's almost 10:30 and I have to get up at 4:30 in the morning to leave for my vacation. I had hope yesterday to finish with how much I had accomplished but finally I wasn't able with all I had to do today... and while working on it tonight I ran into a few bad luck and problems...two pieces broke and had problems with my airbrush... Had to dismantle and clean it.

So here's where it would be left at until my return next Saturday.
I finished painting and weathering, sorry for my English, the things that hold the wheels... I added a break wire. Never done that before but it sure does a nice job. The wheels are also finish.

ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr
iPhone are really awful at close up picture. I really should get out my Nikon but too lazy

And the last things I was able to do was to put on the propellers (one of the bad luck there) and put on the Matt coat. Problem there too... So here are a few pictures.
ImageSans titre by Francis Pare, sur Flickr

Pictures are a bit dark...the weathering on top doesn't show much. Hope someone's like it . Feel free for commentary for improvements. Even if the SIG he's going to be over I'll go put pictures of the finished plane in the section
Have a great week everyone ! Vacation !!!!! Finally !!

Yes on a beach, getting a bit closer to you  I'm going to Sandbanks, Ontario...beautiful beaches...as beautiful then those in Cuba or Dominican Republic.
Thanks Scott for putting me in even they're a bit left to do (antenna, wiring, exhaust and removing canopy mask). I'll try taking other pictures this morning before leaving with the masks remove.
