Another excellent build in progress FD and you're skills with photo etch is mind boggling. Spent a couple of hours struggling with some fairly basic PE on a panzer III last night and felt quite discouraged when my wife said, "is that all you've done!" What does she know!
I'm also trying to send some good positive vibes out to you for those tracks. Immense task, but it'll look fantastic once you've nailed it!

The upgrate set I used was one from Aber.
Eduard 1/35 BMP-2 (designed to be used with Zvezda kits) # 35560
Bought it by eModels for £11.76 that's approximately 19.49 CAD.

Re: Zvezda 1:35 Russian BMP-2D
After trying to make the Zvedza tracks workable by drilling holes in them and putting a pin trough, I have made my decision. Broke 4 micro drills (0.3mm) and ruined 6 track links. It is allmost imposible to get the track links drilled all the way trough 100% straight.
I have done this job before without troubles, but these Zvedza just will not be drilled...
I got a lot of pacience, but there is a limit.
So... Time to visit the after market!
Found these workable tracks from MasterClub on Ebay. They are resin, and have great details. Every link got its own casting nr like the real ones have, so thats a plus!

These will work fine, and saves time, drills and frustration..
I think I have made the right decision...
Concentrating on my PE work now while waiting for these tracks to arrive from the UK!

Re: Zvezda 1:35 Russian BMP-2D
Well, if you couldn't make the Zvedza ones work, I doubt anyone could. By the sounds of it you've done exactly the right thing getting AM tracks; I read once that only a foolish man continues in the same direction once he realises he is going the wrong way.
Hope those new tracks do the job for you.

Thank you. The Zvedza kit is not all that bad tho... But this one is a older kit, and low on details.
The track links had to be glued like the Dragon magic tracks. But I wanted to make them workable, and that is almost imposible. I think the newer zvedza kits are better, but I never done those before, so I would not know that...

Update #7
Friday night, and weekend
Time to show a little update!
Time to replace these thingies what should be periscopes...

One periscope is made from two PE parts. Hard to bend them, but it is possible.

And here is the real thing...

I must say.. This is a realy good PE set from Aber
'What more did you do Dutchman?" I can hear you say.... "it can't be all you did this Friday night?"
Nope... I did some more
Especially for Coen "now bend some more metal!"
First I glued to upper hull to the lower hull. It needs some filling and sanding, but that's for later.
Finished the back doors.

Detailed the trime vane that is on the nose of the vehicle. It's to prevent the vehicle going under water when it's going fast in the water.
Here's a picture of a Finish BMP 2 with raised trim vane.

And this one is flat on the nose like I'm doing on my model:

Time to start.
I have heard of molding pins/marks, but this is ridiculous...

So after the usual filling and sanding, this is the front of the vane.
The side hinges are going to replaced and a part of the front hinges too.

This is the reworked one:

Side hinges:

And here is a 360 view of my progress so far..

That's it for now, this weekend more building and a update.
Happy building and Cheers fellas!

Update #8
After a short and loud trip to Lee's library
I did some work to the 30 mm automatic cannon 2A42.
Again some parts needed to be removed and replaced by PE.

When I looked at a picture of the Original gun, I noticed a canvas cover over the gun.
The Original part has a molded one as seen here:

But I wanted to upgrade this too, so I used the tissue and wood glue technique to create a new cover.
It's not very clear to see on this photo (it looks a bit like paper pulp) but It's still wet and my camera does not pick up the detais very well.

Here is the Original cover that I used as reference.

That's it for now, tomorrow I got some more time to build.
See you then!

That cover will look cool when it dries.
It should still have some of the texture of the tissue paper.
I always fine that it looks a lot like canvass.
Nice work Frans.

Re: Zvezda 1:35 Russian BMP-2D
Hi guys!
I didn't do much this weekend, for I'm tired and don't want to ruin any PE work.
So, Instead I glued on of the figures together, and I'm trying out some positions where to put him.
It's actually a gunner, but his body is way to big to place him there.
So Iv'e made him a driver instead.
What do you guys think about this position for the driver?

He looks a bit grumpy, but that's probably because he had a lot of filling in his crack(s)
Getting some rest now guys. hope to get some work done next week!

There is a lot more PE to do, but no big things.
Just things like the smoke granates, periscopes, some clamps and clasp, belts, hinges, bolts, handles, ....., ....., ......,
So not much at all...
Thank you Shane,longlance67 wrote:coming along nicely mate,

I thought the figure lookt a bit too big, but it's not, it's the correct size.
I'm having fun building this poorly molded model. It's a real challenge to make a low detailed model pefect.
I'm way out of my comfort zone with this "modern" build, for I am a German ww2 builder, but I like the build of this thing.
There is still a lot of work to do, but I'm getting there!
Can't wait to slap some camo on it tho...

I like the look of that figure there Frans.
The placement of his hands if perfect for the location of the periscopes.
Very natural looking.
Possibly talking to someone standing next to the vehicle.

Re: Zvezda 1:35 Russian BMP-2D

Had some time left tonight, Did not wanted to build much or sticking my head in my butt like Coen, so I started crafting a crate instead...
This kit is provided with a plastic one, but I don't like it.
Time to replace it...
Manual

Parts

These are the materials I'm going to use:
1.5mm Balsa wood, scalpel, balsa cutter, cardboard and woodglue.

This is my balsa wood cutter. Awesome thing! Turn the wheel for the desired thickness, and cut the piece you want!

After some happy cutting, these are the pieces I'm going to use...

For a more wood like look, I make woodgrain with a micro saw.

And you'll get this:

After cutting the pieces into planks, this is what needs to be assembled:

Time to glue the parts on some cardboard.
After drying, you can cut them loose.

When everything is assembled and a PE beld is placed, (no build without PE for me

Painted it wood brown

Time for some weathering.
I used MIG wood ageing solution and a drybrush with Andrea wood and valejo white.

Final result:

Left: my crate Right: kit crate
What do you like better?

I don't like crates that look new like the one in the kit. Crate's should have holes and cracks in them, but that my opinion...
This crate is planed here:

I think it looks awesome...
Cheers guys!

Re: Zvezda 1:35 Russian BMP-2D
I pulled my head out just long enough to see this wonderful crate appear.
It's wonderful haha.
Actually it's bloody fantastic!!!!
I make mine out of fruit basket wood or Popsicle sticks, depending on the thickness.
I've never thought to use PE though. That's pretty cool!!!
