Just trying out some of the myriad of new recommendations for the office
Doesn’t this make you feel safe??
Memories... last fall I was working for a dental surgeon when the roof started to leak. The practice took up all of an old chinese buffet restaurant and the water was moving across the ceiling once in was inside the roof so it could appear in any of the rooms. I was sent the the dollar store to buy up ALL the plastic ground cloths and tarps I could find, along with most of the garbage bags that the store had. There was a couple of million in sensitive electronic equipment, x-ray machines, monitors, etc. By the time everything was covered it looked just like that photo.
Monday, I am traveling half way across the country to trade-in my 2006 Toyota wheelchair van for a newer used one. I am just slightly concerned with the travel considering the COVID19 warnings. Actually it is only 7-8 hours one way. I will be spending the night there Monday and picking it up Tuesday morning. Fortunately for me, I will not be traveling through or in any of the higher risk areas in the USA, it is in Raleigh, North Carolina. I mapped it out and at no time do I pass through or near any COVID congested areas. Wish me luck.....
P.S.: Why am I going so far to get a certified used wheelchair van? I will be saving aproximately $35,000.00 compared to buying it new locally. $46,795.00 for this one versus $81,628.00 for a new one. I'm getting a 2018 with only 10K miles versus a 2020 with 20-50 miles on it. To me it is worth the difference and the drive......

Canadian government has decided to dumb down our social distancing adverts
Moose is now in short supply due to their new role in social distancing and those who don't have a moose getting one is extremely difficult. However they can be obtained from shady characters for exorbitant fee's.
If your moose won't co-operate refunds are not available.
One must also carry a suitable size bag to pick up after them. Those who try feeding laxatives to the horrible neighbors moose will also suffer stiff penalties no matter the provocation.
With the appropriate paper work and payment of the government tax you are encouraged to help out the less fortunate moose-less couples by renting your moose by the hour or day. Your moose must have it's registration applied to the upper left rear and a stop light affixed at the rear above the tail.
Your government thanks you and your co-operation in this trying time.

We have our Royal Canadian Moose Police to enforce the rules:
The Canadian military tried Moose, but found them to be large sissy and formed units of bear cavalry.
You think a lumberjack on a bear was enough, and is pretty good, but they also used to have Beaver grenades to throw, but it wasn't long until the sissies of the world added Beaver grenades to the list on inhumane weapons in the Geneva Convention. Those big teeth caused huge carnage... oh well, they still get good results chucking empty bear bottles at the enemy. You wouldn't think it to look at them, but you'd be surprised at how far and hard a bear can throw a empty bottle.

I am thinking some of this stuff is made up
I, sir, am outraged by your slanderous and contemptible comment. I will have you know that I am a person of high morals and standing and that is what has gotten me to a high position within the liberal party of Canada, of which I have been a proud member since 1809.
So.....I looked into getting a hair cut this morning. My thought was to get there first to avoid the long waiting lists. So I looked at my trusty on-line check-in application to see that they modified their hours and are not open until 10:00am. This means the app. will not let you log into the waiting list until they are officially open (at 10:00am). OK thats no problem, I will just get there around 09:45 and be one of the first at the door.
Upon arrival I find the parking lot full (15-20 cars). There is a girl taking names for hair cuts outside. I asked her how it could be this full if they did not yet open? I find the salon has been open since 08:00. I asked why the on-line app stated a 10:00 opening? Their comment was that they did not want to be overwhelmed with people and check-ins right at opening(?). I do not get that strategy, either they are open for business or they are not(?). Now I have a 1.5 hour wait because I followed the app.
Of course they cannot allow but only a couple people in the salon at a time due to COVID19 guidelines. They will call my cell phone when I am next in line and recommended I wait in the car in the parking lot. So now I am back home as I am only 5 minutes away from the salon.
While checking other barbers or salons I find they are all in a similar situation. So for now I will continue to look like a 70's rock star reject. Perhaps I should let it grow another inch and get it permed so I can pretend to be an 80's big hair band rock star?
Sorry, but after the years in the military and employed by DoD with "high and tight hair cuts for 43 years, I cannot handle this hair any longer (I made a funny, get it..."hair any longer").
Now I will wait my time like every other lazy slug who just bumbles up to get a cut.

Got to put my hands up and admit to the same issues with how first my father then the military proper insisted my hair be styled - or, more appropriately, removed!
And current conditions - in the UK Barber shops remain closed - I've been sitting with a pair of scissors every week trimming it back so its out of the eyes, off the ears and off the collar...

I've been in a hard lockdown here in Melbourne since June/July. Its been tough.
My wife and I are both now working from home, with a three year old.
BUT, today, Melbourne has recorded its second Zero, (0) covid case two days running.
Its been a hard slog. But we're now beginning the steps to open up.
To give a bit of scale.
The state of Victoria is about the size of the UK.
Population is around 6M. Nearly 5M of which live in Melbourne (metro area, urban sprawl).
I'm not sure what that translates to in the USA but you can work that out.

I'm glad to hear your good news. I just spent a 4 days in the hospital for my second round of chemo. At this particular location, they decided to not let any covid cases in due to so many wards having immuno compromised people. However, talking with a nurse, she said that at their other 11 locations in the area, the cases have gone up from averaging 10 at each location to around 25. Our population here in the Denver area is comperable to yours there in Melbourn. Luckily my wife and I both have essential jobs and have been able to continue working. Her from home and me actually going in to the office.
Just can't afford to let your guard down too quick with this nasty thing. Better to stay away from busy area's. Probably easy for me to say as I'm used to being away from people for long stretches . Those who aren't find it twice as tough.
It shows that lockdowns work. As painful as they are, its the truth.
I've spent a handful of days in the office since March. When I started my new job in July I didnt see anyone from the company for nearly a month, weird doesnt cover it.
All I can say is thank God for having a hobby and interests that I can largely do in physical isolation.
Goes without saying this forum has been massive too.
Stay safe friends, follow Darth's advice

Regarding the trials of work or unemployment, I am blessed with being retired so the whole work thing is not an issue unless I am trying to reach out to get something done. The dark side for some retirees is that without friends, hobbies, family, and all, it could have the possibility of being a isolated and depressing place. I am fortunate that I have these things to include my building buddies on these modeling forums.
With the second wave of COVID now appearing, I'm seeing and hearing two distinct variations in many peoples philosophies regarding the pandemic. Either they are second guessing everything and locking down even tighter than before, or they are totally disgruntled with the restrictions and are waiting for any opportunity to wig out and do something stupid. Coming from an emergency management background, I tend to lean on the best proven practices and a controlled environment for a safety standpoint but still hinge with a flexible and sensible application to minimize stress and improve positive mental health.
I am hoping my hobby friends here are managing their stress and staying active with friends, family, hobbies, exercise, etc. As you know, good mental health is as important as good physical health. This means also being cautious but sensible as much as possible with the numerous Covid restrictions.
In our home, we have to consider the needs of my special needs son and act accordingly. This means we have many visitors to include home health aides, three different therapists on numerous days, all of the managers who supervise these functions, etc. All of these people are seeing many other clients other than my son so the possibility of exposure is drastically multiplied. I am disinfecting the contact points often, requiring them to wear masks while in our home, etc. Even with those precautions, Jarrod and I had to self quarantine for two weeks for being exposed through a person with COVID at his adult day care facility. We were fortunate to only have mild symptoms before recovering fully.
Well, thats it for me checking in from the mid-west USA. Just a note, if anyone needs a modeling friend to talk to during these stressful time, I will volunteer my ear and time to listen. You can send a private message if you feel so motivated or reach out to me for my personal e-mail.... Take care, be alert, cautious, and love those you hold dear.
Your friend,
Ben aka DRUMS01

Keep a beady eye out for that inner Gollum or as Churchill called it - his Black Dog. All the news reports are saying depression and anxiety are going through the roof with all that's happening. If you feel it coming - reach out, however and in any way you can. As modellers we can throw a few of our own punches too, just to keep the enemy off-balance. Dont wait for the urge to build, sit yourself down at the bench and try a small session to get you going, It will come, trust me.
Try a reset, clean the bench or go on Amazon and buy that kit you've been hesitant to pull the trigger on for months. Its called retail therapy for a reason. Stay active on the forum. There's a whole bunch of good people on here so lean on them (even if its just for banter). You are not alone.

ALL good stuff Stokesy and very true. Sometimes I find it hard to get started, but as soon as I pick something up and actually do even a small thing suddenly a easy 2 hrs have passed and I wonder why it was too hard just to start working.
Ps....I don't suffer from depression, but my wife does.
Other than building the best cure I ever found for depression is a dog....
When I left the Army adter being diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy it was a dark time in its own right but the side effect of the injury made it much much worse. The parents were getting desperate - tried everything, nothing worked then one day Dad brought a dog home. One of his mates dogs had puppies and they needed homes. I kid you not - it was like someone turned a mental switch. I've had dogs ever since and whenever the demons want to come out and play its like the dog knows and all of them, regardless of breed, have just come and sit with/on me making me focus on them. Demons always lose.

Absolutely agree, love having a dog, wished I had one growing up
My boy is billeted away for hockey and the family has a shepherd that has taken to him and sleeps on his bed
A dog makes it much easier for him to be away from home.
But, can be rough when they are sick

We have a similar issue - Maggie the Greyhound has two little ulcers in her left eye and as a result she has "granulations" over part of the eye where the body has tried to heal over the ulcers, Looks pretty damned awful.
We have to put eye drops in 4 times a day followed by an eye lubricant 30 minutes later. She's being pretty good about it, always coming over when called (although I suspect that's because she knows there is a biscuit due after the nasty drops....
