Very small update guys, but it is progress
Only painted the periscopes with periscope blue with Vallejo panzer aces.
And the antenna's are painted black, spare track brown, ready for some rust pigments.
Also the gun cover is painted and highlighted.
This BMP is realy coming together now!
I hope to finish this weekend and make a start on the figures. When that is done, it's time to make the base.
See ya next time guys!

And quick too. It's just over a month from start to finish, and with all that PE work too, that's impressive.

Frans,
Great job you did on this BMP-2!
If I may ask about the wash - did you use any premade product (like MiG, AK or Vallejo) or you made a wash on your own?
I'm wondering, because recently I'm testing preparations of my own washes based on oil artist paints, so I gather any info I can
Regards,
Radek

Thank you Radzy
Sometimes I make my own wash, but most of the time I use washes from AK interactive.
The wash I used this time is a enamel wash for german vehicles in dark yellow from Ak.
But if you use these washes, you should be carefull not to over apply. The more you need to clean up, the more thinner is needed, and there is a risk of taking the paint off.
Before I wash I give my model a clear coat. Let it dry overnight, then apply the wash.
This works the best for me...
Cheers mate, and good luck!

Update #17
Well.... More a small tutorial then a update actually.
The BMP is resting till this weekend (maybe she's tired

) so I wanted to make a start on the figures.
I will begin at the BMP driver.
Everybody has it's own way of painting faces, and you should paint it the way you like the best.
This is just my way to paint faces.
This is the guy that soon has a face.
This figure has low deails in his face, so it will be a challenge to give him expression..
For anyone who wants to know what paint brushes I use, I use series 7 from winsor and newton.
Series 7 are made for modelling, the brushes has shorter hairs, so perfect for figure painting!
Back to the driver...
His face is painted in a base colour of Sunny skin tone for that "healthy" look.
I never paint a face in a one time coat. I give the face 3 layers of highly diluted paint. As thin as milk, and letting it dry between the layers. This way you will keep the face details (if there is any) and give the face a nice smooth finish.
Now for painting the eyes...
A lot of people find it very difficult to paint the eyes. Yeah.. it is tough tho, but I have just a few steps..
First I paint the eye white. Not bright white, but more off white. I add a little grey to it.
I don't worry about the size right now, It will be touched up later.
Time to do the iris and pupils...
I use a sharpend toothpick for the iris, and a needle (mom used this for punching cards) for the pupils.
Adding the iris. You can use any colour you want, but I mostly use brown. Never use bright blue because the figure will look like a freaking zombie and look like this
No worry for the scale of the eyes yet.
And with the needle I added the pupils. I Always make the figures look left or right, because it is allmost imposible to make them look straight. The will look crossed eyed instead!
Now... touching up...
If we look at our own eyes, we see that the upper eyelid is partly over the colored part of the eye. So is the lower eyelid.
Best is to make the figures eyes almost squint.
A dark line for the upper eyelid, a light one for the bottom.
Now, for the fastest way to make shades, I simply give the face a flesh wash from Vallejo.
Highlight I add with a light flesh colour and dry brush it on the top of the nose, chin and cheeks.
For some light an life in the eyes I add a small drop of varnish, but that will be done when the paint is completely dry.
This is as far as i'll go for now, painting faces allways strains my eyes!
Next time I will show you guys my way to paint the figures clothes!
Happy modelling!

Update #19
Did some various things this weekend.
First, I finished the BMP!
Took some quick pictures of it, the realy nice ones i'm saving for the reveal.
Next, I finished the driver.
Put him in the base colours first and gave him a modern camo sheme as seen here:
And this is my version:
Then I gave hime lo and hi lights.
And a final dark wash.
I forgot to take a picture of him finished..
So here he is fixed behind he wheel of the BMP:
Now it's time to think about a base.
I had the idea of putting the BMP in a desert... But I'm not going to do that...
No, I was thinking at a city environment
So, this is the setup I will use:
HA! The driver is not painted here, for I took this pictures before...
Anyway,

It's going to be a asphalt street, with some road lines on it and a couple of concrete barriers.
Maybe a modern street lantern... The barriers seen on the photo are home made just for the setup, I'm ordering MIG barriers.
That's my idea!
Need to finish 2 more figures, than I will start at the base.
Thanks for looking guys!

Yeah.... Mabye I scratch build them, but I'm not sure. I can be lazy sometimes too...
Painting camo takes a lot of patience and a steady hand, I can tell you that! 2 Figures to go...

Update #20
First, Thank you all for the nice comments and compliments guys!
Well, it is a very busy week at my work and I just got a little time to spare, so this is going to be a small update.
I finished the second crew member today!
Painted the 3 tone colour camo, and gave him a brown filter.
Highlighted with drybrush, and finished by giving hime a satin varnish.
I'm also brainstorming about making asphalt/tarmac.
I came up with this setup for the dio, it will be my final setup.
I used sandpaper for the tarmac, but I'm not going to use it for now.
Why not?

It looks awesome!
Yeah... if you are making a dio of a racing circuit or a very modern highway it is....
But this is WAR man! 80ies war. So the tarmac can't be looking to smooth...
Straight yes, but not to straight. It needs some bumps and cracks in it.
I got a lot of test done of differend surfaces (wood repair, Airclay, Black paint with sand) and I'm waiting for them to dry to see what works best. I think for now the wood repair works the best, but we will see!
There is a street lantern planed, got to figure out how to scrath this.
That's it for now, guys!
Thanks for waching, and see ya next time!

Update #21
Hi guys! Thanks for tuning in again
Made a start on the base today.
The Base itself is made from blue soft foam (styrodur).
Easy to cut and shape. Also I use this for building cobbel roads and walls.
I;m making a asphalt road with some concrete barriers. I did a lot of testing stuff for how to make asphalt on scale.
The best out of all my testing was ready to use white pumice from Vallejo.
So here it is on the base...
It does not look like a asphalt road yet, but trust me, it will!
Added the concrete barriers in the wett pumice. Also added some rubble or (kitty kat litter) and sand.
All will be painted Nato black, when this is dry.
So that's what i'm going to do now, watching the pumice dry...
More update tomorrow, That is if I'm not playing Assassin's Creed IV Black flag that came in today!!!
Xbox, here we come!

Update #22
Hi guys!
Here's another update for ya
Did some work on the base...
First up: Primed it black and arbrushed it nato black.
The concrete barriers are painted grey. These will get darker when I'm going to weather them.
Then I masked of the white street lines.
A road line in the middle and I added a crossover so the whole dio gets some depth.
After Masking the lines, I put some liquid mask on the lines to get a worn down look of the lines.
Added the streetlight (this is not finished yet, and will be shown to ya when I'm finished with the base) and airbrushed the sand by the barriers. Some grass and flowers are put by the barriers. After drying It's time to weather all of it. The base is now way to clean. But this will be shown in my next update.
That's it for now guys!
Thanks for watching!
