More parts re-make.
Working on the steering linkage seen here on the side just below the bonnet behind the RHS tire....again a prominant part of the car

So the steering mechanism from black plastic to sturdier brass structure

Test fitting rough part into chassis location

Two weeknights of modelling time in a row...I am on a roll baby

I would love to be engineering all this brass stuff to actually move properly and function, but that is at another few levels of skill beyond me

Mate. I'm so sorry not to have caught this thread before. It's heroic. It's a Nordic saga full of mists and dragons. It's Odysseus's journey back to his Missus after the siege of Troy. It's War and Peace. In short......it's an epic build.

Re-soldered the broken wing back in place for the gas cap
Then I used the particle blaster at work this morning to get a nice clean surface....this should polish nicely now

Curious, how far along is the Bug at this point? So many awesome details I think I've lost track of the overall build.

Exploded view of the car and most of her parts in their little jewel boxes......some kit parts but many re-made

Had some success tonight but up too late tonight on a school day tomorrow...funny how always get modelling mojo when the time to is wrong. Post more tomorrow

Making front brake lines like these

The scrap wire and broken micro drills

Watch parts from E Bay used because that lever thing looks similar to what I need

Stringing wire through the frame and lever attached to the blue hub

Thanks for the exploded view...I think you're farther along than you think you are. I mean, I know you have it all in your head but sometimes from deep in the weeds it's hard to see the light. It's really starting to look like a real car. Endlessly enthralled by this build.

Popcorn isn't enough.

Love the box of old clock parts...such a great idea (and probably cheap, too!). Those brake lines...

I saw a documentary on Netflix The watchmakers apprentice It took him two years to make a whatch, I think you should finish it before then

Ok, so more with this Blue Devil from the weekend
I re-worked the brake lines to have braided wires so the diameter is larger and the single wire diameter can be the safety wire around the body
Lots of oil lines put in for the engine, wheels are tighter and on fully now. It is getting there

Interestingly enough I chose to make steam clouds for the engines of my Dagobah X Wing last night....you know from the Star Wars sig a year ago

If it weren't for that ruler in the last photo I'd swear I was looking at somebody's kit car in their garage. I bet if I had a tiny key I could start the engine.

Edit: well, not a key, a turn of the hand crank, but you get my meaning ; )

Some parts cemented to the body....seat, dash and firewall
Good progress on rear brake lines and scratching a throttle linkage.

Pic is for Mr Lysus ...two bolts and the body would be on fully. I just gotta hang off as repairing the paint from a CA thumbprint accident on the mid boattail area. Nothing like leaving a thumb epithelial layer print on the most obvious surface of a car body

I must be getting closer to completion, the diorama and display thoughts are running around in my head

Exhaust headers test fit

Making the steering column and a closer view of the throttle link underneath it

I painted up the steering wheel too...it is getting closer!!!

Starting to look like a car!
Testing the fit of the front cowling or bonnet or whatever the heck you want to call it.
This was a big step as it is in decent alignment and means I got the firewall to radiator position somewhat correct.
There are no positive stops for any of these major parts, so it is pure guesswork exactly where the firewall sets and at what angle. Now I can attatch all the radiator hoses, spark plug wiring harness and carburetors since I have fixed reference points.
Steering assembly also in and wheel on. I like the stance of the car too, doesn't sit up too high

Been off sick today, feeling crappy so after a long sleep and lots of medication, I modelled.
Making the steering column pressure plate..round thing shown here at end of the column

Used a hole punch on leather and copper sheet to get these

Then decided to drill holes in the side of the body for the safety wire that holds the real car's body panels together

And threaded wire around copper rods Ca glued in the holes

Or a straighter wire look

And now more medicine and an early bed

I have the opposite at home right now, everyone else decided to be sick and I'm playing nurse all day (first day of vacation, too...) Grr.

More sick building....wiring harness and plugs done, carbs in, throttle link done and I duplicated the safety wire on the RHS

I have done more in the last two days than the last entire month
