I am going to have a go at this group build as well. I did have a long think before committing to it but I think that I will be OK.

So for this build I am going to follow Lenny's lead and do an old classic. In my case it will be the 1/72 Matchbox Supermarine Walrus MkII. This kits moulds date from 1973 although the box design shows this was a later reissue in 1982. Here are the shots of the box and the sprues in all their glory!

Image

The lovely 3 coloured sprues in silver, grey and white.

Image

The instructions and decals. Quite a bit of yellowing on the decals so I have stuck them straight into the window for a bit of natural bleaching.

Image

How I plan to do this build is to do a build log as normal over in the aircraft WiP section and then issue update posts with link to that section here as I go along. For the build itself I am going to do the boxart NMF finish and markings (HMS Sheffield 1938) and to show the aircraft on a water diorama a the end.

I hope this will be OK for the Group Build rules.

Fast work on the Spruce Goose mate! Here is my update on my Walrus build. This is a duplicate of my post in the Builds Forum.

A progress report on this build. First off for an old kit it has gone together surprisingly well here are some shots of the main subassemlies.

First off the upper and lower wing half's, glued with TET and no filler needed :th: I always planned on this being wheels up with is a good job looking at that ejector pin mark in the wheel well :shhh:

Image

Next up the central upper wing section, again as good as the wings.

Image

Next a quick look at the fuselage sides, the rectangular shape in the centre is meant to be a window;

Image

Some quick work with the pin vice and scalpel and its ready for putting glass in with Kristal Clear at the end of the build.

Image

The wing outrigger floats were tackled next, again a good fit but a little clean up needed here but nothing major.

Image

The final subassembly is the engine and its mounting supports. This will fit on top of the fuselage and support the central wing section. Here you can see how the kit deals with this tricky section.

Image

Now to fit all the bits together, as you can imagine the wings proved to be just a little on the tricky side :bash: but I got there in the end

Image

Image

Construction still to do; the horizontal stabilizers, under wing floats, mask and fit canopy and fit tail wheel/rudder. Then its on to priming :th:

Thanks for checking in :cheers2:

Very quick update on this build. All of the major construction is completed, the canopy was fun to mask up. I did that during a modelling hangout with Schoof, Paul, Coen and a few others, that really makes the evening go quickly! Finally it has now been primed with Tamiya spray grey primer.

Image

Image

It may look like I have missed a significant join line on both the upper and lower wings, but this is meant to be there. This aircrafts wings were folded back for stowage and when deployed were quite obvious in the various photos of the real things I have seen.
