AS-18(2)/AS186 Compressor - Any Good?

Hi All,

I'm looking at possibly buying an air brush setup, and would appreciate any advice or feedback on a particular model of compressor, the AS-18(2)/AS186-2.

This entry level compressor seems to crop up for sale in a number of places here in the UK (eg: AirCraft.Net, EBay, Amazon), the reviews I've read seem to indicate that it is a good little no-frills compressor that does the job. Though none of the reviews I've read seemed to be written by people specifically using it for modelling (I suspect some were though they didn't mention that in their brief Amazon type review).

So, I was wondering if anyone here uses one of these compressors or has heard anything about them, good or bad? Or if there is another entry level compressor that would be a better fit to general modelling requirements.

Also, is it better to have a compressor with an air tank or one that provides air on demand (ie: it kicks in, albeit quietly, every time you go to spray)?

The 186 is a good compressor for the money, the next step up is what I'm getting on tuesday a sparmax Tc-610H, but at £160 its twice the cost of the 186, but it is a much better quality compressor and will last a lot longer.

Whatever you get make sure it has a storage tank to it

Thanks Paul. The TC-610H looks like a nice unit. Are you currently using the 186?

I may have to save the ole pennies for a little longer for the 610H as I suspect that will last me longer.

Not sure if it is too late to be answering...
I've been using that compressor, with tank, and it works wonders. I really enjoy it! Been using it to paint all of my models and I've even painted the dining table's legs here at home!
