Help me determine if I have a nozzle problem

Post by galileo1 »

Hey all,

Okay, I have an Iwata Revolution CR that I cleaned with my ultrasonic cleaner last night and then rinsed, lubed and put back together. All mechanical parts work nicely (i.e. air valve, trigger, etc). The only thing I'm now noticing is that even though the needle is sitting perfectly straight and all the way inside the nozzle, when I depress the trigger for air, some of the fluid (thinner) I have in the cup for testing is also being sprayed. In other words, the brush sprays the fluid even though I'm not moving the trigger back for paint.

This looks like a nozzle issue (perhaps it got damaged in the ultrasonic cleaner) but I'd like to get some feedback on this before I go out and get a new nozzle.

Thanks!
Rob

It does sound like the nozzle, just make sure the needle is pushed home fully (don't force it though)

One other thing are you sure there isn't a small piece of say dried paint in the needle nozzle as this would stop the needle going fully home maybe check that too

Could also be a trigger seating issue - it can happen that as you push down, the angle of the trigger pushes back very slightly on the needle spring mechanism. Unscrew the back end to see if the needle move backs at all as you press the trigger down to release air.
Good luck!

Thanks for the great feedback, guys. As far as what I tried last night to fix this problem, the needle was fully pushed into the nozzle. I pulled it out and back in several times to make sure it was seating correctly. Even after that, it still sprayed. I can definitely look at the nozzle again to make sure it's completely cleaned and at the trigger to make sure it isn't pushing back as I depress it.

This brush is one of three Revolutions I have so I guess I could also borrow a nozzle from a functioning gun to try and see what happens.

Thanks again.

Well, it sure is the nozzle. Borrowed a nozzle from one of my other Revolutions and the gun with the issue now works like a champ! Guess is time to buy a new nozzle.

By the way can anyone tell me the type of lubricant Iwata uses to seal their air caps, nozzles and the such? Is there anything similar out there?

Thanks, Paul. Thought it could be Super Lube. I'll give it a try.

To be honest I've stopped using it as I've been having problems with sticky triggers, I've not been using anything on mine for weeks now with no dramas :th:
