Sleepy Hollow

Post by Twokidsnosleep »

This was going to be kept under wraps until it was finished but there is a DeathDealer horse project and I wanted my horsey to join in

So for the FIRST time since September 2019, I am re-visiting this project
I think we all need to keep in mind the ethos of being supportive and helpful in our pastime and projects
That is what ISM was originally based on. Limited free time, fickle mojo and life all contribute to derail timelines for builds
I have been hesitant to touch this build in five years b/c of a couple smart ass comments

Image

So I re-tested all my lights and made sure the wiring was still intact, get myself up to speed
I seem to have used the base lights for something else, so will have to figure that out

Image

I added the wires that will run up through the horseman and make his neck hole glow green

Image

Primed up the tree trunk in expectation of detail paint
Image

This was the original thread:
viewtopic.php?t=27655&hilit=Headless+horseman

“so does that mean Scott's Headless Horseman is due for its annual outing? “

Not sure why anyone would say anything negative about that build dude. It was going along wonderfully! I dont have the knowledge to do any kind of lighting. If I did I'd have certainly lit the riders and horses eyes at the least on mine. I look forward to seeing this done!

If it was anything I said I apologise now.....I have been called a smart arse before. Nothing I say is intended to inflict discomfort.

Just a thought , but that slapchop method might be really good here seeing as this has so much black or shades of.

Build looks cool with the usual pimpage from yourself with the cool extras.

I checked over the original thread in case it was me who made the smart ass comments but couldn't find anything - thankfully.

I saw the film when it came out with Jonny Depp, scared the pants off me and I only saw it once. I am an absolute wet rag when it comes to supernatural horror :o
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Yes indeed
Kind of an evil greenish tinge for tree and head and then the red horse's hooves from HE-double-hockey sticks

Some after dinner work on the horsey

Cementing the fore legs together with Tamiya extra thin and LOTS of clamps
There will be some seam battles here :bash:

Tested the nose, eyes and mouth lights

Found a LED set I can put on red setting and tuck under the base for a fiery hooves of hell look

I had painted the leather saddle and reins black and let it dry all week
Today I highlighted the moulding of the horse with white dry brush and the saddle in silver dry brush
I think it gives a spooky feel to the horse and highlights the nice moulding details

I have to say the attempt to copy Disney leaves a lot to be desired.

If you were serious, the horse would self-identify as a goat and unseat its rider in an act of defiance, throwing off the yoke of its imperial oppressors.

Me joko, obviously. I reckon the white stripe was to help the animators in giving shape and depth to the head. If I remember the Jonny Depp version (and I try not to!), the horse was all black, but that could just be my sub-conscious protecting me.

When does the cement mixer arrive with the next load of filler for the legs?

This is the cape being painted up
Added some black to the purple…1black: 3 purple for the inner parts of the cape

    Inner cape
    Image

The outer side was sprayed straight purple, then the darker mix sprayed in the folds and then brush flat dark panel liner.
On the prominent folds, some purple w yellow mixed 1:1 for highlights some final high lights with white dry brushing

Hopefully you will offer it for sale on etsy... ;) (I'm sure I can't afford it though... )
I so would give it away. I feel that way with many if my builds once done, meh
But man thus is so sloppy I would be embarrassed to even give it away. He is pretty fragile too so I could see it breaking up in shipping
The wiring set up will be anything but elegant; so hard to get it simple
Well we will see. If my wife hates it I will let you know

Ideally if I were to make something for someone, I would want to build a test version first and work out the bugs
Interesting topic idea for discussion

FWIW - I like the headless look. :)
I should imagine in a darkened room this would look pretty awesome!

You could - if you were possessed of a mind as evil and twisted as those produced by the British Army - tie the model to a motion sensor in a very dark room so that as soon as someone enters the room it turns on! And place it in direct line of sight so they can't miss it..... <laughs evilly in British...>

Have not fully sorted out the overall lighting controls. LED’s can be so weird when you wire them
I got the horse’s bridle done and on
I am going to 3D print some clear resin pumpkins for the base and in his hand
